Question?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with !Daley Real Estate

Which is more eco-friendly? A cell phone or a landline? Does anyone have any insight to this? I am guessing a cell phone simply because of lack of wires, but I am sure there are a million facors. Can anyone shed some light on my question?

Just curious....

Kelly,

If I had to guess, and it is purely a guess, I would say that a landline is more eco-friendly because they last longer than cell phones. There's a reason cell phone plans are two years, because that's about how long they last. The recycling of cell phones with batteries would be an eco nightmare.

Land line would be my guess. You have towers for cell but no lines. I have already had about 6 different cell phones. They cause a number of accidents which can be deadly and dangerous. My tow cents

I have no idea, but I do recycle my old cellphones through http://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/  They raise money so our troops can call home to their families and loved-ones.  We are a drop-off site for phones at our office as well.  We have collected over 100 phones to date!

I would agree and also say the landline telephone. Cell phones are like computers. They are obsolete when you purchase them. I always donate my old cell phones to our County. They reprogram the phones and give them to abused women for emergency calls. I also like the idea for raising money for the troops.

Kelly,

I bet there's not that much differnece between the two in terms of materials mined from the earth or materials put into land fills considering that while land line phones may last longer there are usually multiple phones for every land line number and that most of these phones are cordless and still have a rechargable battery. The cell phone takes a huge dive in the eco-friendly debate with the amount of Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR) they produce. Land line phones produce some unintentionally but nothing like a phone that is designed to produce EMR intentionally as a way of getting the information over great distances. EMR has all kinds of undesirable health effects on us and I am sure that it has some effect on trees, wildlife, etc. as well. But no one is studying that much yet.
