It's not like it wasn't expected.  The man who governed Illinois is now a civilian for the first time in 6 years.  Knowing my conservative view, I'm proud to say that I never voted for him in any election.  I'm sorry that it hs come to this, but his time is up.  I have mixed feelings on this even though I never liked him even oine bit.

Ex - Illinois Governor Rod BlagojevichWhat really rags me about this is a few things....

I never liked Rod.  I felt that he was a snake.  I hate to admit that I judged someone on his looks and speaking mannerisms and what he says, but I told my wife that he was a crook before he was even elected.

1)  Due process needs to exist here.  It never really did.  There was no hearing per se.  There were impeachment proceedings.  He was not allowed to call certain witnesses.  While my gut says that he's a snake (did I mention that I don't like him), I still don't think that this process was fair to him.

2)  He wasn't convicted of anything.  In other words, I am amazed that the Illinois Dems (yes this was lead by the dems...and the reps have no arguments from removing him either). who are ACLU liberal, due process waiving representatives, wouldn't let the investigation just take it's course.  Truthfully, I think that dangerous precedent has occured by impeaching someone who has only been CHARGED WITH A CRIME, NOT CONVICTED

3)  Finally, I think that the way this was done cheapens the leaders of Illinois. This is the State of Lincoln.  It was Lincoln and the Repulicans that lead the way, even shedding blood to abolish slavery.  Now, more that 150 later, the leaders in Illinois seem more concerned with impeaching someone who will probably be convicted here shortly.

4)  I think that it reflects badly for both parties to unilaterally impeach someone who has only been charged with a crime and not allowed to call certain witnesses during that person's defense of his or hers livelihood.

For the record, I always believed that Rod would go down.  However, I never thought that he'd go down in this manner.  I think that Illinois congress cheapened itself while going down this route.  It's too bad because I think that Rod swallowed his own grenade.  Sometimes it's better to let that person do that than to give him a chance to look like a martyr.

Pat Quinn takes over.  He seems like a journeyman at the right place at the right time.  I wish him discretion, Godspeed and discernment as he takes over this new role.

It was only a matter of time before it happened either before his corruption trial or after it. The only reason that witnesses were  not allowed to be called was due to the criminal trial. If he had witnesses speak they would have tainted the trial.

The whole political community soured on him and chose to make a quick and decisive action to move forward. What they did was best for the state especially after Obama's move to the White House.

The only thing I wish he would stop saying is "the people voted for me 2 times".  I never voted for him, and I do think I am a "people".  He should say that over 50% of the people voted for him.

I read this on a blog last night, not original but I thought it sounded good, so I copied it. Feel free to delete if it is distasteful to you being from Ill.I don't understand due process in Ill so I can't comment on what the constitution says, but I was curious as to why Clinton was impeached and he never left office yet in ILL Blogovich was and he is still there.

Chicago . . . . Who Runs it?
Senators: Barack Obama & Dick Durbin
Representative: Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Illinois Governor: Rod Blogojevich (arrested)
Illinois House leader: Mike Madigan
Illinois Attorney General: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike, above)
Chicago Mayor: Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor
Richard J. Daley - need we say more?)
The leadership in Illinois ? .....all Democrats.

And Thank You for the combat zone in Chicago .

Body count in the last six months: 292 killed (murdered) in
Chicago : 221 killed in Iraq

State pension fund - $44 Billion in debt - worst in the country.

Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax - 10.25%, highest in
country. (Look it up).

Chicago school system - rated one of the worst in the country.

Of course, they're all blaming each other. They can't blame
Republicans because there aren't any!

Missy and Larry- and now they are threatening to show republican senator areas with their job loss rates because we stood unified against a pork spending bill NOT a stimulus package! More of the same!

Larry- how could you even adorn your blog with his face?

Larry and Katerina:  But when we look at it, isn't there a distinction between good pork and bad pork.  Bad pork would be some of those goofy "back home in my district" that both Democrats and Republicans have for years gotten into various appropriation bills.  Good pork... would be things to put people to work... whether in the districts of their legislators, or all around the country.  Anything that creates jobs... which fuels the economy... would be a good thing.

Larry - I have very similar feelings across the board as you have laid out here.  The Political Arena and both parties need an enema.

@ Missy:  One name on your list that sticks out (in a good way) to me is Lisa Madigan.  She is currently the Attorney General in Illinois.  After seeing a blurb on her in one of the Blagojevich articles... I googled her, and she seems to be a pretty sharp cookie.

Darrell...I agree with you to a certain extent.  Obama leaving Illinois actually was the best thing that happened to Illinois.  Chicago is almost bankrupt b/c of him.  I hope that he can do good things for Illinois now that he's finally out of the state.  However, with Blago....due process was not served.  That's my beef.

Marty....I hate that as well.  So what if they voted for him 12 times.  He's still horrible for the people.

Missy....I need to know you better.  I couldn't agree more with your comments.   Thanks for sharing.

Nestor...so stupid about that isn't it.  Blago's face?   Hey, it's still press.

Karen, I've never mentioned pork at all.  But we need to be careful on how we spend.

Jason...haven't said "you da man" to you in a bit....YOU DA MAN!

Karen....she's as left of center as they come, but yes...she's incredibly sharp.  h

Larry - Every day that goes by I realize more and more evil that is ingrained in our society. It sounds like a vague and broad generalization, but the "good people" are crying out for justice, so to speak. In the past we seemed to talk about major issues concerning society, now every area of society is a major issue. Oh well, I better step of my soapbox now.  This could be sooooooo long.

Gone, but not forgotten!  Regardless of his guilt or innocence, he provided some great comedic material for all the late night talk show hosts.   LOL   I agree with you about the "going down as a martyr" thing, but I continually got the impression that he refused to give them an alternatives.  Either way, what a character!

They sure do have a reputation for hiring crooks.  I believe the count now is 4 governors in jail and another on the way. Hopefully, the voters have learned from this and maybe they will check out their candidates more closely, rather than just hit the button of their party.

Larry~ I never liked the guy, still don't like him. Having said that, I am very uncomfortable with a state impeaching a sitting governor who has not even been indicted.

He was a victim of the media henchmen, this time they got a liberal.

Messy deal that is for sure and these ethic and moral lapses seem to be common and acceptable to many.

Larry,

I like when our country produces heroes instead of villains...!!! Thanks,   Fran

Larry, no presumption of innocence until proven guilty; no facing you accusers; no ability to call witnesses and raise a defense. I had never heard of him before December.

Makes me wonder if there are unseen reasons to move him off the stage.

Larry,

Every time this guy opened his mouth something incriminating came out. I believe the evidence was just overwhelming for him to be removed. I am sure the federal charges will prove to be true.

@Missy - The reason Clinton didn't have to leave office is that he wasn't found guilty in his impeachment.  The impeachment is the trial... not the outcome.

Larry - One thing to keep in mind is that the level of proof for a criminal tril is "beyond a reasonable doubt".  For an impeachment it is "based on a preponderance of the evidence."  So, for impeachment, Blago has to be 60% guilty.  For a criminal trial, he has to be 95% guilty.

I don't like his very frequent use of the F word.  However, you have to wonder if he knows something we don't, based on the way he grins in the camera.  I guess time will tell but it just seems like he is "busting at the seams" to let everyone knows what he knows.  Unless someone pays him to keep quiet.  I guess we'll have to stay tuned to see what happens.
