I created profiles today on facebook, twitter, and MySpace. Im not sure exactly how to utilize each one to the fullest, or which one will be more benficial, but I have decided to try them out! I would really appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions on this social networking aspect of our bussiness!!

Thanks!

I just did Plaxo myself because a realtor friend had sent me an invitation.  I was just thinking do I need to do facebook and myspace.  I just learned about twitter today from a friend.  It sounded really neat so I'm definitely checking it out.  I've heard Linkedin is great for a business social network.  I'm not that tech savy so don't know that I'd be any help.  Except the friends and colleagues I spoke to today seem to agree the more places people see your name the better.  Good Luck!  Keep us informed.

I post listings and things of that sort on facebook but it has turned out to be a way for people I haven't heard from in 20 years to find me. However, anything that link back to my site and contains keywords so I'll be easily found is worth it. Just post your key words on there, like "Pfugerville's top realtor" etc.

Unless, of course, you don't work in Pflugerville. That would be silly.

Kathy, good for you.  You'll soon find how to stream updates from one to the other (i.e. twitter updates to facebook) so you can minimize your time on each and still have the benefits of having multiple posts.  I am still learning --- learning every day, and still feel like I have only begun to scratch the surface.

Kathy, I have done much of the same. I found an Active Rain group in face book and joined, and from there have added many people whose posts I read here as friends. I have also searched my college and local regional groups and have caught back up with some long lost pals. I think the social networks can eventually help your name recognition but go in to find friends first clients will come later.

Kathy~

I use just about all the social media sites that I've learned about here in The Rain. I'm still trying to figure out if they work, how they work and why they work. The more exposure, the better. In the business of real estate marketing; we want to be found easily by buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants. Good Luck with your efforts!

Congratulations on jumping into the social media storm! Here are some tips for you:

Facebook

Be sure you include lots of information about your local area. Join groups on facebook that are local to you - not groups from Pflugerville, as the really funny guy from NY said, but Austin.  That way, your target audience will see you and start interacting with you. Also, join groups for Realtors(c) because they will also get to know you and that puts you in a position of receiving referrals.  I have a group on Facebook for real estate professionals called "Marketing 4 Realtors". There is lots of conversation on that group between agents and other real estate professionals.

Twitter

You're going to love Twitter once you get the hang of it.  You can't just set up a profile there and leave it though.  You've got to start by following people (probably other agents and people in your area) first so that you can develop some streams of conversation.  The more people you follow, the more people will follow you.  Talk about real estate in your area but not just real estate.  Be a real person.  Talk about your family, fun things you do, etc. And most importantly, engage others in conversation as well.  People will get to know you and will think of you for real estate.  Follow me on Twitter, too, and I'll always be happy to give you help there!

MySpace

As with Facebook, be sure your MySpace page has a good mix of both business and personal information.  You want people to befriend you but you want them to get to know you.  You want to also remember to keep track of comments posted on your comments section here because you may get lots of weirdos posting inappropriate remarks that you'll need to delete so check it frequently.

You're going to love social media marketing.  It is definitely addictive.  Take it slow.  It is a slow process after all.  You'll have to develop relationships the way you would in person.  But it is so much fun and you will get to know so many people.  You'll love it!  Trust me!

All I can say is to be ready to spend some time on each network.  You won't get any return if you don't spend quality time developing your presence on each network.  So don't do too many at once!
