9 Comments on Will The Agent With 109 Listings Please Call Me Back?
I once had 109 listings. It was 1991-1999. Seriously though, unless they are all new builds or an entire condo complex, how does one manage that many at a time.
They don't. It is terrible dealing with many agents that have a lot of listings.
Gabrielle, you would think in a market like this agents would be bending over backwards to answer and return phone calls.
I can attest to the lack of professionalism that is occurring in our current market -- here in San Diego. Just the other day I ask for an update on a listing and the rudeness of the person I spoke with was uncalled for. Many of the short sale and REO agents have a attitude that smacks of it my way or the highway for you. As they say he who has the gold makes the rules.
Guilty! I try very hard to return phone calls -- or have others on my team return phone calls -- but sometimes they fall through the cracks. There are only so many hours in a day. Plus on the other side of the phones, there are agents who call in, leave a message, and then call RIGHT BACK again. I've seen it on my caller ID -- I'm on the phone, someone calls in, it goes to voicemail, then the phone rings again and it's the same person calling. Sometimes this happens 3-4 times. It would be so much easier if we'd just leave one message, because it takes more time for me to pull 3, 4, 5 of the same calls...
I was recently on the other end of an REO transaction where I was not representing the Seller, and the agent was horrible. No return calls, no acknowledgement of the offer, no nothing, and it was bad, bad, bad. For over a week, bad, bad, bad. From there I looked at how my team was handling calls and offers (which was okay) and implemented an upgraded process. Now as soon as an offer comes through, agents get a faxed response acknowledging the offer and advising them of timelines for response, etc -- kind of a "thanks, we got it, here's the FAQ that might help you". The positive response to it has been overwhelming and you know what? It really wasn't that hard to implement. I just had to be on the buyer's side and experience what it's like to be working with a too-busy overwhelmed non-organized REO agent.
So thanks for posting this. It's on spot, it's polite, it's to the point -- and it's true, from the lightest busy-day degree to the arrogant "I'm all that" level.
I know what you mean. I had a Realtor interested in something I offer. We talked but the line got dropped or she hung up on me. I called and left a message 5 days ago. No return phone call.
MORNING ROBERT! Ha ha ha! That's GREAT! Thank you for the comment! - Gabrielle
MORNING DENNIS! It's tough dealing with REO agents - even when I do reach them on the phone - the attitude is - well - it's surprising! Thanks for the note - Gabrielle
MORNING MICHAEL! I agree - I think just a simple call would do it. Thanks for the comment -- Gabrielle
MORNING LORRAINE! Oh don't get me started on the attitude! As if it isn't bad enough - then when I have reached some REO agents they are rude, abrupt, and, I think sometimes just mean! Ughh! Thank you for writing that! Gabrielle
MORNING THERESA! Nice perspective from the other side! The fax step is great - and it's not hard!! I wish agents here would implement it! I personally limit calls to REO agents that I need to work with - if I make several calls - it's over "days" not "minutes"! Sounds like there are some of us that are also adding to things on the other side. It's encouraging that you experienced what many of us non-REO agents are experiencing and did something about it! I have not received a return call yet - do you have any suggestions? I would really like to get your advice - you seem like someone who understands and doesn't take offense -- thank you for writing this - a welcome addition to the post! -- Gabrielle
MORNING TONY! That is so frustrating! I hope it works out - or just move on! -- Gabrielle
They are a different breed. I try to be understanding.
It is so hard for me not to post stuff like this but I decided not to blog about people when I first started blogging. It is frustrating and I sometmes think they will burn someday in a special hell that is created just for them... then I realize I am probably breaking some commandment even thinking that way... Mea culpa.
OK maybe just a bit o'venting will help me here on the privacy of your post. Just between me and you and the rest of AR and anyone else.... In December I tried to schedule an appointment on a short sale two days straight and got no response. Showed the other houses in the 'hood and talking to the showing service after the showings when they called to say "SORRY we could not get a confirmation for you, again." The person they were calling for 2 days straight was NOT the seller. It was an assistant on the team. The showing service never got a call back from the team for a showing on a short sale that required confirmation.
Buyer moved on. I could tell you stories ... but I won't.
Hey maybe I should re-blog your post...
Gabrielle - how about the ones who can't seem to update their listings' status in the MLS? I tried to show one to a client before Christmas...and it had been SOLD a few days before, but still was listed as Active!
I can understand someone biting off a little more than they can chew (otherwise, how are limits discovered?), but sometimes it is ridiculous. Add to that an attitude, and things can get really toxic fast.
