Just curious........How many of you have at some point made a change in your Real Estate Company (Brockerage)? ....For those of you who know me.............you know I recently made a company change......I went flying high "above the crowd" to "painting the town red"........ Now  I know some of the obvious reasons for making a move......and I certainly know my own personal reasons...........but I would like to do a quick survey to see ...

1.) What were the Top 3 Reasons for Changing?

2.) How long did it take you to make the move? From the time you started thinking to the time you actually made the decision?

3.) Who was instrumental in helping you make your decision?

4.) In retrospect  are you glad you made the move?

5.) What advice would you give someone considering making a change?

I'll be doing a post about why and how it all happened for me............but  I know 'everybody has a story'...............So I was wondering.......Whats yours?  :-)

I made exactly the same move 5 years ago as the first KW sales rep in the greater Toronto area.  First and foremast, I made the move for the co-operative culture and the ongoing training (that I was paying a fortune to third parties for).  Since then, the opportunites of training and coaching others, profit sharing and ownership have become other great reasons to be "red".  Welcome to the family.  I'll see you at Family Reunion!

Liz, I have to admit my change was 1.money 2.money 3.money.  I started with a Keller Williams but the one I was with had a management change and that was when I left.  I went to a RE/MAX and was there for about 6 years and then went off on my own.  Going off on my own was a big change but not really if that makes sense.  I have always worked out of a home office and after leaving KW I was truthfully on my own.  When I made the changeto my own brokerage it was really no big deal.  I do have to self train and try to attend as many training as possible.  In that vein I now have several designations.  I'm one class away from getting my CRS.  If I meet a new agent I tell them to go with a Keller Williams as they have the best training out there.

  Hi Liz,

I am so new to real estate, I have not make the change.  However, I did interview 33 brokerages in the Phoenix area before making my selection. : ) Since I have only my limited experience, it seems that most agents switch due to lack of promises kept.  Like I said, this is just my opinion with the little experience that I have regarding this.

Hi Sylvie - Well Welcome to Real Estate!  I think that is probably one of the TOP 3 - Unkept promises....:-)  Curious after all the extensive interviewing........what made you decide on Coldwell Banker? :-)

Hi LIz,

One Word, Harold.  Harold is the manager of the office that is by my home.  He is just a Great Guy!  At first, I wasn't even going to interview with Coldwell Banker since the lady that came by my school didnt want to answer any questions until we had made an appt.  However, after looking in my area and deciding it would be just short of stupid not to interview with them since they are one of the closest offices by my home and I was interviewing brokerages in Scottsdale-which would be about a 35 to 40 mile drive just to go to the office-this office is less than 10.  Besides Harold, Coldwell Banker has some Great programs for agents, and especially new agents with their training program.  I have to admit, if I had not chosen Coldwell Banker, I probably would be either with a KW office -going Red, : )  or I would have chosen a RE/MAX office, they were equally compelling in their structures.  They just didn't have Harold.  It was just sort of weird how it turned out since I didnt really think I was going to like them and then.......   : ).  Funny how life turns out sometimes.
I am so glad that you are happier now!!  It makes so much difference in your Day to Day Life!
I went into Real Estate in 2007 since I needed to be able to take time off, with out having to Beg for it, to take care of my mother-who lives in another state.  I worked for the State of Arizona as a Case Manger for 17 years before I left.  I have to admit, the stress is different but more manageable now and I am also a lot happier than I was before.  Which is an added bonus for my husband!  LOL.  Sorry, pprobably a little more info than you actually wanted.  : )  See, thats what having a Great Guy like Harold as your manager can do to you!
Have a Great Day!

Liz - when we started our company a little over 2 yrs ago, we did it because we had our ideas of how we wanted to do things such as marketing, internet etc. we also wanted to use the fees we were paying for our own marketing etc. and really our philosophy didn't match with what was going on with the previous company.

Once we talked about the change, it happened really quickly. Wheels started turning and bam, here we were on our own. I'd have to say it took about 1-2 months (paperwork, lining things up etc.) This was absolutely the right choice.

Oh, and Brian has been asked a few times in the last yr or so to become a Team leader with KW. :) ~Rita

Liz...

I think that best advice that I would give someone considering a change is to talk to agents that have left the prospective compnay and find out why.

1. Better Technology, money, broken promises

2. 3 months

3. The brokers we interviewed, my team mates, other agents actions.

4. Extremely.

5. Take time to gather all of the information. Consider the pros and cons carefully. Don't burn any bridges.

I have to agee with Maria, especially on #5

I starte with Coldwell Banker.  The broker was my friend.  Eventually, I was a balloon head.  Then I started my own brokerage, and now I am the broker for Prudential in my area.  No bridges were burned.  I have the utmost respect for both brokers, and even wrote about one of them.  The other will be my acting broker while I'm on vacation.  Don't burn bridges.

1.  I didn't like the way things were done, and thought I found a better way - each time.

2.  1 day the first time, several months the second time.

3.  You'd have to read my blog - way too long for here.

4.  I'm happier than ever.

5.  Se Maria's answer above!

Rick - You're absolutely right - the training and culture are amazing - I've never seen anything like it!  See you at FR!

Marchel - We'd be lying if we didn't admit that 'money' was a big factor - I agree!  Its great that you refer new agents to KW! :-)

Sylvie! - What an amazing background you have - and Harold Harold sounds wonderful!  Maybe one day I can make the same impression on my new Recruits! :-) Being happier is definitely BONUS BONUS and makes getting up in the morning a lot more exciting! :-)

Rita - Oh I would love that! Please do! Then we could be each others support network and share our Aha's and Oh oh's ! :-)

Richard - that is an excellent idea - although more then one - because there are lots of reasons why someone might be disgruntled! :-)

Debbie - great and interesting points! The key or a big key- is don't burn any bridges!  You're so right! :-0)
