Vacation or Second Home

By
Real Estate Agent with Diane Turton, Realtors NJ 0123665

If you have never owned a home please start looking to see if you can buy one now.

Now is the time to buy for the first time or a vacation/second home.

I would

  1. Go to the banks, see what you can afford.
  2. Check with family members about helping or going in with you as an investment property.
  3. Check with friends that you vacation with; if you all go to the beach or ski or some other vacation spot why not invest in buying vacation property?
  4. Talk to a real estate agent in the area I want to live.
  5. Have a down payment. If you can put down money at least 5%, have good to better credit and can move in a short time (nothing to sell or no lease). You may be able to get an affordable home.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Elizabeth,

Welcome to AR.  I have found this to be a great site to meet & learn from others.  Have fun, too.

My husband & I have thought about a second home, but since we like to visit so many places it would be hard to chose just one place.  Currently we are traveling from NW, PA to FL via stops in IN and GA.  ON the way home will stop in SC, VA and MD to visit family & friends.

Keep in touch.

Thank you, I have to say everyone has been so nice, I am not sure how to answer comments directly, this one came to me but others are not, I'll get it sooner or later. I too have thought of a second a home and also bought one in Hawaii. I think if you know where you want to retire or if you have family in another part of the US or out of the country; might be a good place to start. Some families get one where their children attend college, they have some place to stay and when the children move off campus they have a place to stay. I do think it depends on the location and if there is a chance that the children will stay to live and work there. Talk to you soon and thanks.
