What is "appropriate" content to include in your Active Rain Blog?

I read a blog post today that hit a nerve.  It is called:

MLS Screenshots Posted to Active Rain written by Heather Rankin Lake Powell

I admire Heather in her post, as she is asking the advice of others here on Active Rain.  Heather wants to know if this venu is the proper place for us Realtors, to brag about themnselves, and our listings.  Who cares what is for sale 3,000 miles from here in Seattle Washington?

Well Heather, Active Rain is such a great place.  There is room for all of us.  There is a growing number of comsumer interest here on Active Rain.  This is a great resource for a comsumer to come to find listings.  Localism is the best place for this, and the information migrates from the Active Rain Blogs.

I disagree with Robert's comments in your post.  It is not a shame.  This is what this place is about.  We are to be honest, and write from the heart.  We are to promote ourselves in shameless promotions.  We are to also make friends here on line, and learn from one another.

I for one do all of this.  When I am moved about a hero landing a plane in the Hudson River, I write about it here on Active Rain.

When I want to represent my seller through dozens of on line web sites, you can be sure I am blogging about their house for sale, here on Active Rain.

And when you promote yourself, and also your listings, you know what?  Not only do you rise to the top in your community on line, but the google juice flows freely.

Then?  Your phone rings.  Then?  You are closing more homes than before.  I hope I answered your question.  This is a great network that is better than free.

I agree Don. Most importantly, AR is whatever yo want it to be. And you will get in what you put into it. It is like any other marketing tool you have at your disposal. If you don't use it and learn from it, you will not see results. It is a tool to be mastered, and it will seerve you well, from what I have seen thus far. Besides, what can some shamelss self promotion hurt, right? We all had to do it to get started. I will use you as an example Don. I am sure you did not wake up one day and had people just promoting you as a realtor. No, you had to get the proper training, education, an office to work in, etc.. So, to get some of these things yo had to toot your own horn a bit at first. Then the band started playing behind you as you developed a following. Correct?

Good article, everbody toot your own horn today, it's Saturday.

I think my post may have been too vague - but I did not want to link to the blog in question. The poster is not advertising his listings, or even any particular listing,  but rather taking blurry screenshots of every listing on their MLS, in a one line format - and posting them.

I agree there is room for all, but I don't think scamming the system helps any of us and I fear that is what this is. I don't belong to the same MLS so I have no idea if the posts is question go against their rules. However, the bottom of every screenshot posted there is a big ole copywrite symbol by the name of the MLS company.

So do I promote myself - heck yes. Do I promote my listings - also heck yes. But there is line of decorum that has been passed here me thinks.

I appreciate the time and thought you've put in to answering me. Cheers! Heather

Since I live in what is claimed to be the second-largest concentration of military personnel in the free world (behind Arlington/D.C.), I hope that someone in Bremerton, Washington; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and so many others do want to know what might be available in San Diego.

Why?

Because many military people in other military cities quite often get relocated here for several years. When those out-of-state Realtors help their Clients sell their homes there, I'm hoping they will come to ActiveRain and find me to help their Clients buy a home here. I would do likewise if someone is moving from here to there.

Granted it might be rare, but so is the simple act of buying or selling a home. When was the last time you bought or sold a home for yourself. By being in a real estate network of over 132,000 members, the likelhood of such a referral coming to pass is higher than if I were not here.

Activerain is the best of marketing.  You can promote yourself, promote your listings and make new friends.
