My stuggle with going "green"

I am wrestling with things I can do to live more responsibly and conserve. Now let me set my back ground. I am 100% conservative Republican. I do not like tree huggers and I do not believe 1 single word out of Al Gore's mouth about global warming. Is the earth warming yes are we the cause, absolutely not. The earth constantly is going through cycles and humans do not cause it. Now with that said let me tell you what I am struggling with.

I believe it is absolutely important that each person try to conserve energy and live cleaner. I would love to see a United States that has no dependency on foreign oil. We can do this if we invest in other forms of energy. I have been looking seriously into solar power for my home. I will probably go solar over the next few years. I also will use ethanol instead of gasoline when we get an ethanol dealer here.

Now I am not saying that everyone need to rush out and by a hybrid car or anything. However when I say a woman and one child going to Wal-Mart in a Hummer it really tees me off. Why do we do such things. Some thing else that tees me off is the "beautiful people" running around in private jets telling me to car pool. It is very funny that Al Gore's home uses twice as much energy as George Bush's Home. It really gets to me when our government and Hollywood says do as I say and not as I do.

I know this really doesn't have a lot to do with real estate but I thought I would share.

I couldn' t agree more.  The only thing you can do, is keep up what you're doing try to recycle as much as possible and maybe get a hybrid car, if they ever get ethanol outside of major cities, we have 3 places in the entire Vegas valley that sells it! And don't think about driving that car outside of the city where the cjoices are gas, gas or disel !!! Unless you want to walk that is!

Have you heard the fuss over energy saving lightbulbs recently?  Personally I think they were the worst thing ever made, I've started stockpiling my regular bulbs before congress forces us to use the mercury laden so called "friendly bulbs"  Scary stuff...... I'm off to breath into a brown paper bag now......!!!!

You and I most likely think alike because we live in the same region. I actually live more green than most green liberals as do most people that live in the poorer areas of the USA. Gore is all politics and little content. How amny people would want to limit the size of homes? I have always wondered why people do not mention this. Recycle homes

At least he is bringing the subject up and not ignoring reports from top scientists from all over the world. The world is changing. That is a fact. Footage from the 70's of iceland compared to the same areas today is indisputable. I can see we can agree on conservation for the simple fact that it will SAVE YOU MONEY. (I'll appeal to your republican side).  The sooner the US embraces green technologies, the better off we'll be, especially foreign dependance on oil. Most of the governments that don't like us also control a huge portion of the oil business. They depend on US for the money that keeps their economy a float. I say lets quit giving them our money! -Charles

Nineteen years of excellence!

I'd say play both sides try to recycle and do as much as you can in the home without becoming too anal. Or if you prefer you could give money to charities who will do the battle in your name.

Sorry Jacqulyn but Canadians like Americans and we have most of the oil now!

Thank you all for the comments. I knew I would get a wide range of ideas. I will continue to do my part. I do beleive that we live much "greener" than most of the talking heads telling us we should live green. As far as Al Gore I don't think he is the person to be telling me to conserve anything. And his movie is a bunch of baloney.
