It is Super Bowl Sunday, one of my all time event days during the year. The Super Bowl games hold many memories for me.
Games I watched with my dad, my son, friends and parties I’ve been to. I’ve decided to recap a game a decade and a short memory of the game. Well except for the 60’s where I will include 2 games.
Super Bowl I—Green Bay Packers 35 Kansas City Chiefs 10
It wasn’t even called the Super Bowl then. I was a kid and was forced to go to friends of may parents for after church Sunday dinner. The game was just and after thought, bit I squirreled away to the living room while the adults socialized.
Super Bowl III---New York Jets 16 Baltimore Colts 7
How can anyone forget this one? I watched this one with a childhood friend while living in Georgia. It was what made the Super Bowl the Super Bowl. Joe Willie Namath walking off the field with his hand held high. Number 1
Super Bowl X---Pittsburg Steelers 27 Dallas Cowboys 17
The catch by Lynn Swann and one of the great games. I had just moved to Oklahoma and remember watching this one with my dad.
Super Bowl XXII---Washington Redskins 42 Denver Broncos 10
I did not actually watch this one I heard it on the radio. How can you forger Doug Williams’ tremendous performance. My wife and I were driving a U-Haul truck as we were finalizing our move from Oklahoma back to North Carolina.
Super Bowl XXXIV---St. Louis Rams 23 Tennessee 16
One of the great nail biters going down to the last play of the game, one yard short. I enjoyed this one watching from home with my son.
Super Bowl XXXVIII---New England Patriots 32 Carolina Panthers
29
It was a tremendous disappointment that my beloved Panthers did not win, but what a game. Back and forth scoring in the second half. This one I witnessed at a party my wife’s cousins had. I was so nervous during the game I circulated from TV to TV. I finally found a TV where I watched the last two minutes by myself. Oh, the agony.
Today new memories will be made. I’ve been trying to decide who to pull for. I like the Steelers. A Steelers victory will give them the honor of being the franchise with the most Super Bowl wins.
The Cardinals have always been a terrible franchise, one of the worst. I think I’m going to pull for the underdog. Go Cardinals!!!
