4 Comments on The Australian Open makes me yearn for Tennis in Sandpoint, Idaho!
Kent - I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Australian Open this year. Not only the men's singles but all of the events gave us high quality tennis this year. I wore out the remote switching between ESPN, ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel these past couple of weeks. Your area seems very active for a tennis community and coming from someone that has played since the age of 12 is very appealing. All the best to you and your business.
Although Federer had the extra day's rest, he looked like he was just worn out in that fifth set. If he had been able to keep his game up, the match might have rivaled Wimbledon 2008 between Nadal and Federer, but that fifth set made it just another five-setter for me.
I won't yet put Nadal into the realms of greatest tennis players ever. I think he can get there if he can stay healthy.
Jim - You sound like you must be a tennis player yourself. I had lunch yesterday with a couple of 5.0 USTA players visiting from SanDiego up here at Schweitzer. They were pretty passionate about the sport.
Personally, I can't believe how these guys can withstand the abuse their bodies take with the 5 setters in 100+ heat day-in and day-out. I am VERY impresed with both Nadal and (obviously) Federer. Thanks for checking in!
