I received an email from my principal broker on behalf of Oregon Real Estate Agency. This email was forwarded from the Oregon Real Estate Agency and lists some of the new rules which took effect as of January 1st, 2009. I have listed one of the new rules I have questions about and hope it does not mean what I think it means. Its mind boggling to think of everything this is going to effect:
OAR 863-015-0125 states: If a licensee uses the term "team" or "group" in advertising, the licensed name of each licensee in the team or group must be used in such advertising. This means all licensees in the 'team" or "group". Advertising includes business cards, yard signs, newspaper advertisements, etc. The reason this is required is that the "team" or "group" name is not registered with the Agency. If someone calls in about a team or group, the Agency needs the names of the licensees in that team or group to look up information.
I think this new rule is going to be confusing to a team or group members individual clients, not to mention extra expense due to needed changes on signs and business cards, think of the cost of more space in newspaper and magazine advertisements. At this time, most of us are looking for ways to cut expenses, not add to our costs. This is one rule I hope they will re-think and maybe just require the "group" or "team" to register with the Agency with a list of all "team" or "group" members.
