Others in your office?

By
Real Estate Agent with Exit Realty

Would you help another agent in your office succeed if your license was not active?  I am having trouble understanding why other agents wouldn't want to help other associates out?  In my office that's what we do, but unfortunately I am hearing different stories about other offices.  Thanks for the input.

Not only do we help other agents in our office, but we help our competing agents because it helps all of us succeed.  If we are all better informed it will make the transaction that much easier and smoother

While helping others is a good way to make friends, it's counter-productive.  It's the brokers' and office managers' job to train people.

Helping others is NEVER counter-productive and there is a big difference from lending someone a helping hand and training them.  Our office has maintained a fun "family" type atomsphere, even through a major growth spell, where the agents are friendly to each other, laugh and have fun, and HELP each other get their deals done.  It's a place where you actually get your calls and you don't have to worry about leaving your client's information out for fear of another agent "stealing" it.  It's amazing what working WITH your fellow agents gets you vs. trying to work against them.

Seems to me, the more active agents you have in your brokerage, the better the exposure to RE market of your community and brand recognition. I recently moved from a top ranking national brokerage to another, much much smaller company, hoping to get more personalized (one-on-one) training. I'm grateful to my former brokerage for giving me very good basic education. Now I hope my renewed enthusiasm produces tangible results.

It is nice to help your family and even nice to help your neighbors.  Heck, it is even nice to help your family.

However, as Gregg Wynn points out, you are at work to earn a living theoretically and not to do charity work.  It is your brokers job/obligation/ and paycheck to befriend, train, and educate the others in your office.

It always feels good to help others, but just be careful as it is addicting and non-productive.

If I can certainly I'll help when asked.  Due unto others........as they say....right!

Wow, already two responses of basically, "screw you, I'm working! Get the BIC to help you!"  No wonder that we are getting more and more agents interested in working for our company.  That is exactly the type of office that they are looking to LEAVE!

Do you guys understand the meaning of "help" vs. "train?"  I don't think we're talking about going on a listing presentation with a new agent, doing all the paperwork, following through to closing, etc (though that happens at my office).  It's aa simple as "Hey Bob, I'm writing this offer and the buyer is wanting X, how do I do that?"

I seriously doubt that anybody is working too hard or "earning a living" too much to take some time out to "befriend" a co-worker or two.  It's a simple choice, folks and it reaps more financial rewards than you'll ever know.

I also wonder the samething. I learned a lot from AR but I never learned from other agents around.
