I am in One on One coaching with the Mike Ferry Organization.  Most of the time, I couldn't be happier about it... But every once in a while, I question my thought process in choosing to not only hold myself accountable, but paying someone else to do it.

Anyway... I digress...  Last week my coach and I talked about creating specific minimum standards for my business as well as identifying what my perfect client might look like.  This is what I've come up with.  I'd love to know if you agree, disagree or have any suggestions.

My perfect client would be:

A Kind, Patient, Motivated and Realistic Decision Maker.  They would trust that I have their best interests at heart and they would not question my motives for not doing an Open House, Company Caravan, setting up a lemonade stand outside their house or hiring a clown to hold their sign on weekends.

My ideal client would not ask me to move the kitchen photo from position 2 to position 3 on the flyer or change the font from Arial to Verdana, from a 10 to a 12.  They would never wonder if I'm really and truly doing everything in my power to get their home sold at the absolute highest price possible, in the least amount of time.

In a nutshell, my perfect client would hire me to sell their home & then... well... let me do just that.

I'm not asking nor do I expect them to feel bad about the fact that I start working at 6:30 every morning and don't stop until 8, 9 or sometimes 10 o'clock at night.  I don't need them to feel guilty that I work through my vacations (if I get one)  & won't spend any time in any location that does not have cell service (you know... in case of a life threatening house selling emergency).  After all, I'm a big girl and I'm the one that makes those decisions for myself.

No, it's not their pity I'm looking for.  It would just be nice to have someone maintain the confidence they have in me the day they sign the listing agreement all the way through the closing without ever questioning my motives or fees. (I know you  may be questioning my communication with them here, but I promise you... I'm always available & they know EVERY step I make).

Ok, I'm starting to sound like a wimp, which of course is not my intent.  I love my job & wouldn't trade it for the world.  The only reason I started putting these thoughts together is because my darned coach asked me to.

I have to admit, it was kinda fun to fantasize about the perfect client.  And at the moment, I'm proud to say that I have several... Just not 100%.

What does your PERFECT client look like??

Sue - First, I like Bob's perfect client! Secondly, I have heard much about determing your perfect client recently; I think, like goals, it needs to be written down, just as you have done. It is amazing the power of putting these ideas on paper. Soon, you realize, all your clients are perfect. Best!

My perfect client is the one who asks for my advice then uses it.  My perfect client returns calls and documents quickly.  But most of all my perfect client is the one who appreciates the great job I did for them by referring me to a few more perfect clients.

Kaushik:  Since writing this post, I decided to get "firm" with several of my clients on pricing & condition.  I reduced 8 listings and within 2 weeks - amazingly enough, 6 are already sold.  Funny how allowing me to do my job can pay off for everyone huh??
