Down Market?...You Decide!

By
Real Estate Agent with REMAX River Cities

Gee, we have all heard that the housing market is in the toilet.  Jobs loss is being reported on the hour it seems.  Well let me look at my hometown.  Here it is straight from the MLS...not so much gloom and doom.  Are things GREAT...maybe not.  I do not think the market is as bad as the media would like!

So here are the facts...just the facts ma'am.

Your area doesn't look too bad.  I wouldn't even want to put our numbers out there.  People would die of heart attacks

Here in Tuolumne County CA our market stats show a similar picture, while we have experienced some price decline it has not been huge. Before the run up in prices our market was extremely undervalued so basically we are about where we should be as far as property values are concerned.

Sounds like Portsmouth NH is in a seller's market...good for you. And good news for the rest of us because it will spread.

Just wish the media would ease up on the doom & gloom scenarios - it seems only the large metro areas are experiencing that and there really is more to the picture.

Lets keep spreading the word......honestly, its not that bad.

Hi Chuck,

Things are really not to bad in our Bellingham Washington real estate market either. Yes, things are slower than they have been in the last 4-5 years, but ANYTHING is going to be slower than the rapid buy/sell/price increase that we saw over that span of time.

Our prices have corrected back to the prices they were a couple of years ago, but that is actually a good thing for most of the market. There are many more people who are now able to afford a home and people who are moving from their current home to a new home have found that prices are relative. They are not making as much money on their sale, but they are also paying less for their new home.

I also agree with kathie (above post), we need to keep spreading the word the the sky is not falling!

Russ - No try not to kill anyone...looks bad on the resume.

Patricia - perfect!

Heath - Thanks...feel free to swipe him.

Kathie - Yes we get it...wish more did.  My town is about 40,000...the "metro" area about 300,000.  Last week on the 10:00 news one of the lead "stories" was that 35 people lost there job at the XYZ Corporation.  The unsual thing was the XYZ was not in our area yes, it was in our STATE but an hour and a half away.  I said to my wife gee they could not find enough bad news here locally they had to go out of the market to find something BAD to report.

Patrick - I remember getting complaints from sellers during listing appointments 3 - 4 years ago.  Like "What do you mean my home price only goes up 3 to 4% per year?!?!?"  The sellers would quote some unkown relative from (fill in the market here) where the prices were going up 20 to 30% per year!!!!!  Well guess what...

Richmond tends to hold on pretty good also.  We are feeling the effects of the market, but compared to other places in the country and even the state, Richmond tends to hold its own pretty good.  I will say that there are a ton of forclosures on the market here though.
