Valentine's Day suggestions! (updated, I have made a decision)

By
Real Estate Agent

There isn't much time left between now and probably the most romantic day of the year. I am tired of doing the same old things all the time, plus I don't think the lady likes to much repetition either. I was writing this in hopes that some of you would share some thoughtful and out of the ordinary ideas with me to help me form something special for this 14th. Have you done or had antyhing done extra special and unique for you? If you don't mind sharing, I would love the suggestions.

One year, I made a Photo slide show dvd with pictures of me and my husband, places we had been, etc.  Added a sappy love song to the background.  It was a big hit with my husband, and all of my friends copied the idea.  Much better than some cheesy valentine day gift.  Of course, a nice romantic dinner is always nice!  Good luck, and what a sweet gesture to come up with something new.

My wife doesn't care for flowers so being creative is always appreciative since she is a Kindergarten teacher.   Instead of buying a card, make your own with your own personal pics and captions.  Make a gift basket for a night to remember.  I get a smiley face for my work.

David, one year I hired a barbershop quartet to come to our home in the morning on Valentine's Day, dressed in tuxedos with roses and a box of chocolates.  They serenaded my wife with several beautiful love melodies.  That was a huge surprise and a big hit!

We have a local group that offers this every year for Valentine's Day -- they're called the Alexandria Harmonizers.

Cash always works for me!  No, just kidding...a quiet dinner at home or at a small restaurant (any day but 2/14) and a nice bottle of wine.  Not too creative, but alaways a hit!

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

On my first Valentine's Day with my husband, who was then my boyfriend, I told him I wanted a hand-written letter from him. So he took a spool of pink ribbon, unwound it and wrote me a long love letter, then he wound it around the living room and up the stairs and over the bed. I wound it back up on the spool, and I have it to this day. It was the sweetest present ever.

Do something unexpected.  What do you NEVER DO?  Cook a romantic dinner?  Make an exciting chocolate dessert?  Look at Barbara Duncan's Blog post from a few days ago.  Her hubby did a very cool thing!

Last year i went out and bought some picture frames (ones that hold multiple pictures in them) and put pictures of our wedding in them and gave it to her that morning, and of course later sent her flowers - she likes showing our friends the pictures when they come over.

Everyone has pretty good ideas so far. You could try putting together a scrapbook of photos so you can remember all of your great times together.

Well thank you for all your comments and I have come to a conclusion as to what I am going to do with a combination of many things from here.

I will have a basket full of goodies and nice things prepared by myself for her when she first arrives home, this will include 11 real roses and 1 fake (thanks) with a caption " I will love you till the last one dies." Then after she goes through the basket I will have a note telling her she needs to check her e-mail. Once she checks her e-mail she will see and animated e-card where a waiter comes out carrying a serving tray and then removes the top. It is a picture of us with a table card reading if you would like to join me for dinner and a movie tonight please look under your pillow. When she looks under her pillow it will include the details as to where we are going for dinner and what to where and then two movie tickets to the opening premiere to "confessions of a shopaholic" (she is dying to see this movie, she should have stared in it) So in conclusion I hope I have put together a memorable day and she enjoys herself. Thank you again for all your suggestions and a very HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY  to all of you.
