We should never take anything for granted!
My husband Jay has just had rotator cuff surgery on his right arm and he happens to be right handed.
He can no longer bathe, get dressed, drive, cook, work on the computer, or do anything else without some kind of assistance. Even brushing his teeth now requires and extra cup to drink out of.
Everything he does takes more effort and determination, but he works hard and accomplishes his goals.
This is his 2nd surgery on the same shoulder in order to get it right. I must say, he's been a real trooper and his patience in dealing with the situation is amazing! I constantly offer him help, but he insists on figuring it out himself.
He knows that once he has worked his way through physical therapy that his pain will subside and he will have a better functioning shoulder.
What he is dealing with right now is similar to what we all have been overcoming in the real estate market. We can no longer take simple tasks for granted. We have to work harder to accomplish the same things.
We must now prequalify someone for a loan and hold our breath waiting for a response. None of the old
rules apply. Even money down does not seem to overcome what it used to. People who would have qualified a few months ago can no longer qualify for a loan.
This cloud seems to have a silver lining. The amount of traffic has picked up lately and those who come out are very determined to succeed in buying a home.
Since the beginning of the year, things really seem to have picked up. The interest rates are at record lows and people still need homes to live in. People are still experiencing life changes like marriage, kids, more kids, divorce, etc. We need to work harder and smarter to sell and close everyone who is willing to buy.
There is no telling if this is a slight reprieve or a sign of things to come. I know we are all hoping that things will only get better from here!
The lesson here is to work hard and do well while you have the opportunity. When things are slower you should train, network, market, prospect, and sharpen your skill set to be ready for the next wave of business.
Here's to success in 2009!
