I think English iz a very straanj langooaj.  Manee of the wordz ar pronownsd very diferently from how they ar writen.  I hav alwayz ben cureeus how English wud luk if it wer speld normaly.

Rusheean is a lot diferent in thees respekts.  Everee leter is alwayz pronownsd the saam, with feeuw exsepsionz.  Wen mii children ar lerning Rusheean, it haz ben eezy for them to lern to reed.  However, English is much tufer beecuz they must memoriiz manee wordz.

Sins English iz not mii first langooaj, ii hav had a difikult tiim lerning how to spel.  Yuu can ofen see this in mii coments.  Bekuz of this, I reelii on spel chek ofen.

I duu wish English wer mor liik othr languuajes tho and wee chanjd the speling so it iz normal.  Duznt this luk much betr?

I agree it is complex and never realized how much so until having to try to teach my two children (pre-K and 1st grade) how to read and write.  So many rules and it can be confusing at times.  The big one that still confusses me is why is it "refrigerator", but called "fridge" for short...adding slang makes it even more confussing.

My daughters would agree as well.Historicaly things were spelled as they sounded. Many old documents by Presidents and exploreres were full of what we would call mis-spelling today. The dictionary created a way to spell words uniformally. Because we are a melting pot of so many languages we follow a lot of different rules from other languages for the words we use of theirs. French words trip my kids up. I have taken a few lessons in Russian, and it is easier-Dinah Lee

I hope you don't spell like that on a real estate contract.  Null and void!  Hee hee!

I think that any language is harder to learn as a second language. Hopefully your kids have the advantage of being younger so they can absorb all of the knowledge.
