I am VERY proud to be a member of the Hawaii Association of REALTORS!
Usually, you would think with Hawaii being so small (compared to many other states) that our policies, rules, regulations, and laws for our Real Estate Industry in the "islands" would be a little behind, a little broader maybe? Heck no!
Every three years our Hawaii Association of REALTORS SFC (Standard Forms Committee) revises our "DROA" which stands for our Deposit, Receipt, Offer and Acceptance form. (our contract) This Committee continues to revise and tune up our forms to detail at every opportunity they deem necessary.
One of the major changes that will occur in June 2007 will be to change our title of the DROA to "Purchase Contract" which is pretty much the standard title all over the U.S. They will also make improvements to the termination and default provisions of our contract. I read all the major changes that are taking place within our coming new "Purchase Contract" and it's revisions and I am really impressed!
I have always been very impressed with our contract anyway. Every contingency is to detail and I have always had the feeling that my contract will protect me with the provisions and detail that it states. Our contract is currently 12 pages (with certain addendums to be attached such as our Cooperating Broker's Agreement, VA Addendum, Dual Agency etc.) and it may take a good two hours to go over a contract (with buyer or seller) but I tell you what. I feel it is worth it. For one, this is a legal binding contract and all the contingencies protect both buyer and seller as well as Realtors®.

I agree I think our contracts are well written and our Hawaii Association has done a stellar job of designing and updating them.
