Time Running Out to File for 2009 Homestead Exemption in Pasco County and Florida

If you purchased a home in 2008 and occupied it before the end of last year, or have decided to make a vacation home in Florida your permanent residence, you are quickly running out of time to file for your homestead exemption, as well as some others that may be available to you. By the end of February 2009 you need to file for your homestead at your county's tax appraiser's offices.

New law that was enacted last winter increased some of the benefits you get when you have a homesteaded property. The basic exemption is increased for many homeowners, and you can take your Save Our Homes assessment savings with you as well. This portability can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, in property taxes! But you have to file!

So visit or call your county's property appraiser for more information and make sure you get all of this taken care of before February 2009 ends.

Visit my my website by clicking on the following link: www.jelwell.century21bnr.com Then click on the COUNTY PROPERTY APPRAISER menu button. I have listed most of the local county sites as links. If yours is not there, I have provided a link to the state contact list of all of the county appraisers in Florida. At each appraiser's site you will find contact information and data concerning the homestead exemption, and others. If you call your local appraiser's office, I am sure they will be very happy to assist you.
