This is the first time I have started blogging without a definitive subject in mind!  Well, let's just see where we go and then I'll fill in the title last.

I think today's blog will be about dogs.

My pooches, Shelley and Gracie, live in a neighborhood full of great dogs!  There's Missy, the Burmese Mountain Dog... all tricolor fur and freckles... then there are Bandit and Blue, the racing, barking, herding Australian Shepherds on the corner.  Bo and Checkers, Prince Edward or something or other spaniels... white and brown and friendly.

Corgis TC and her new brother, Dylan are Cardigan and cute!  Then there are floppy, fluffy Gus and Lola-- just two of many GoldenDoodles around here.  We have Rusty, the Viszla--tall, skinny and skittish with his red coat in cold weather and Wilson, the Portuguese water dog who is very cool.  And Scout, a labradoodle with a feathery tail.  Max is a stunning example of a regal, well trained German Shepherd and Butler and Scarlet make an adorable pair of French Bulldogs that love running with the big boys.

Oh and there's Mo, some kind of a terrier mix with wirey blonde coat.  There's an adorable Norwich terrier that passes by the house who we haven't formally met yet and today I saw a yellow lab puppy obediently trotting alongside his Mistress.  Sugar is an old light yellow lab, sweet as her name but she has moved with her owner to smaller quarters.  Ahh then there is the house we walk by every morning with at least 4 Westies yapping in the windows!

There are some Golden retrievers around but we have never gotten close enough to meet them because for some reason, Gracie, my Weimaraner just simply does NOT like Goldens... no idea why.. she makes friends with just about everyone else.  Gracie's boyfriend, Jake, doesn't live in the neighborhood... but he isn't far.  He is also a Weimie... younger... taller and lanky.. very handsome with a bit of a wild streak and the two of them run together like there is no tomorrow!   They rendezvous most afternoons for a romp in the woods and Gracie reminds me about it every day around 4:22.  She gets downright insistent about it!

My girls also have a friend at the beach...his name is Banks.. a black lab pup who I am sure has grown leagues since we saw him Thanksgiving!

But this blog would not be complete without mentioning Black Dog.  He is a wild Akita who owns the streets-- regal despite his long, thick black mane of matted fur... he has been around our neighborhood for years... won't let anyone come near him but watches at a distance.  He isn't menacing... never heard him bark or snarl... he appears silently out of nowhere and just observes... sometimes he follows a long way off... certain homes around leave food out for him.  One morning I had Gracie and Shelley out early and it was fairly dark... foggy and chilly... we turned the corner and there he stood...a formidable figure in the fog-- it had been a long time since i had seen him and i caught my breath and then grinned... I was thrilled he was still alive!  He is a true legend and there have been several newspaper articles written about him... he is mysterious... admired... loved... no doubt he will leave his ghost behind to watch over us.  Rock on, Black Dog!
