Selling Your House? Try Not to be Home

By
Real Estate Agent with Harry Norman Realtors GA#255705 NC#204194

If you are trying to sell your home, you may think it is best to be there when a potential buyer and their agent come by. Most of the time, you shouldn't be there. Home buyers will feel often like intruders if you are home when they visit, and they might not be as receptive toward viewing your home. They are also less likely to voice their opinions or concerns because they don't want to say them in front of the you, the homeowner. So, visit the local coffee house or store, take the kids to the local park or go for a walk. If you absolutely cannot leave, try to remain in an out of they way area of the house and do not move from room to room. Do not volunteer any information, but answer any questions the agent may ask. Sometimes you can talk your way out of a sale. You want the buyer to look at the wonderful qualities your home has to offer, not standing there listening to stories of how much you are going to miss it when you leave.

good advise, also for those thinking of going fsbo, the same reasons go as to why you think you have interested parties yet no offers.  Buyers don't want to offend you, so they will be "nice."

Karyn, I am mainly a buyer's agent and I have seen many a home seller open their mouth and insert their foot.

It never works out in the sellers favor to be home for a showing.  Good Post!

I totally agree with you Karyn. Many of times I have shown a home and the seller is home and a lot of the time they talk too much and shoot themselves in the foot.
