Today, I am furious!

Why you ask??  Well, let me tell you EXACTLY WHY!!

The hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil, moronic monkeyman posts I have been reading lately are ticking me off!  Why??  Because I spend all day responding to comments, posting and reposting the correct information, and more importantly trying to "RAISE THE BAR" within our industry!

For YEARS, we lenders have blamed REALTORS, the liberal news media and others for our OWN mistakes!  NOW, today, I completely understand why!  My friends and I that are in a small group here on Active Rain, have decided that we no longer can put up with this crap!  I call it crap, because that is EXACTLY what it is!  Unprofessional, misleading, misinformed, and idiotic crap!

PLEASE email me at any time, and I will be HAPPY to either answer your questions directly, specifically, and more importantly, from a 21 year veteran in the industries standpoint!  IF I CANNOT answer your question, I will put you in touch with someone who can, that may be more experienced, smarter, or State Specific than I am!   I will also provide you at ANY TIME with blogs, profiles, or email copies from some of these so called "sources, or wealths of information", and if necessary, will dispute their comments line by line!

Let's face it!  ACTIVE RAIN is viewed by consumers!   NOT JUST people in the industry!  PLEASE,, I beg you....keep this in mind when posting information!  Please don't confuse...please please please inform with positive, corrrect information!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some quick quick quick examples of mornic statements!!

1.  The USDA is out of money!  Please are still lending TODAY, at 100% through the USDA!  The loans are STILL being made!

2.  Dont comment on FHA loans in a blog or otherwise, unless you do them currently, or have a vast amount of information in your arsenal to back up your claims!

3.  Dont BLAST your fellow loan originators, officers, or the like, and expect courtesy and happiness in return!

4.  Dont leave the customers responsibility OUT of your blogs!  Dont you people realize that they can be to blame too!

5.  Do you seriously think, having only BANKs do loans, that customers will get more honest service, quicker answers, more upfront answers, and better deals?? are you HIGH???

6.  Lastly, there is a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference between Bankers, Mortgage Bankers, Mortgage Companies, and Mortgage Brokers.  I am confident that after reading THIS blog, the experienced people in my group will probably ALL BLOG on this topic alone!

Folks, this monkey see monkey do attitude that people have reagarding posting misleading information, or SCARING the general population into thinking this is the norm, HAS TO STOP!

I love Active Rain!  I love the forum!  I love honesty, integrity, and ethics!  When I post something, it is from experience, and I have researched it FIRST!

Dont you all remember college test taking tactics?? DONT EVER make something absolute!  This may only be from YOUR, or your COMPANIES perspective!  We as lenders, realtors, mediators, credit repair companies, etc, bankers, etc..etc..etc...HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY to post ACCURATE INFORMATION!  With the economy in turmoil, and people believing everything they hear or read, we MUST MUST MUST be accurate in our statements!

Raising the bar, holding people to a higher standard is my obligation, and I take it very seriously!  For those of you who do not, please re-think before you blog!

Darin, I agree... after more than 20 years myself in our crazy industry I am shocked at what some people type... It has been an interesting year in our business... I am sure the cream will rise to the top and quickly.

Well Darin, I'm glad you got that off your chest. I agree that it is disheartening to read posts that are inaccurate and misleading. It is hard enough to combat the fear mongering in the media much less having to combat misinformation being spread by people in our industry. And your point is spot on about not blogging about a program you do not or cannot offer. I read a post the other day that mention two lenders and their changes in their guidelines. It was absolutely correct and asked the question, is this an industry wide trend? Then I saw tons of posts popping up noting these guideline changes as having come from FMNA, FHA, VA etc. bleh! Morons...

I don't have a problem calling someone out when they post crap.

You would think that people here would focus on the positive.... But, misery loves company and maybe they seek that here?!?!?!

Happy Friday!!

Rates are great and loans are being closed!!!!!

Robert,

Thanks for the comments!  You know, a fellow Rainer on her, already thinks the cream has RISEN to the top!  Not sure yet if I agree with that...just based on some of the posts here on the RAIN!  However, you are right...!  Companies are consolidating, loan officers switching to more knowledgeable companies, and ones that are more stable...combined with the loss of funding sources, does create limited choices!  However, we were contacted just YESTERDAY by a new lender wanting our business!  There is a large marketshare to be had out there!  If the readers in the industry, do not believe me, then just call your title company,, and ask them for a company of the monthly mortgage report for your county!  The largest category EVERY MONTH under lenders, will be OTHER!!!

Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

Thanks Beth!
You couldnt possibly be more right!  If I had rememberd the words FEAR mongering , I would have added that!  AND YES< I am getting it off my chest for the good of everyone!  I hate to see our industry or GOOD PEOPLE within it, stained by the rumour mill, and stupidity of people who only make up the MINORITY....!  Our country always has seemed to listen to the soapbox talkers havent we??

Tom, you rule the earth!! :)  I certainly have NO intention of being ANYTHING BUT POSITIVE on active rain in my blogs!  I was once criticized by my Area Manager at Countrywide for being TOO postivie in Sales Meetings about my staff and our production!  He is no longer with them!  LOL

I appreciate expertise, not just people shouting at the moon!

Again, thanks to you both!

Darin Thank you!!!! I am so TIRED of hearing on every front (it seems) that our whole industry is one big doom and gloom!   I try to keep up with things daily by contacting my lenders...Realtors need to be educated too!  I am distressed when I read or hear that there is NO money and we can't get loans etc...when I know what is posted is NOT true.  What does this tell our potential clients when they flip through these blogs?   WE sow our own seeds of discontent when we do this.   Everyone reading this keep your chin(s) up!   I am!!!!

Andrea,

Thanks for commenting!  PHENOMONAL comments!  I completely AGREE!  What I do now, is contact the posters commentors, and re-buff their comments! I cannot tell you how MANY contacts I have made this way!  Ordinarily, to people who KNOW what they are doing, I would NEVER do this!  However, when it is SOOOO wrong, that realtors start commenting and saying thanks for the update...I simply cannot help myself!

I wish I was in your part of the country!  I would LOVE to work with you!  More realtors need to have YOUR attitude of learning!!

Thanks again!  btw-  Here is another good link you should check out!

Darin - Although I don't have your 21yrs of experience in the lending business (nearly eight), I do come across a lot of misinformation and just plain ignorance.  However, unlike you who is seeing it here on the Rain, I see it out in the field, here in my area (SoCA) and mostly from uninformed "Real Estate Specialists".

Don't get me wrong, I also hear others in the lending industry who are just as guilty of being ignorant but around here, it is mostly these "Real Estate Specialists" passing on the fear, suspicion (of mortgage professionals) and outright lies to buyers, sellers and anyone else who will listen to them.  The really scary part is that these people tout themselves as "Specialists" and flaunt their many years of experience as proof that they know what they're talking about.

Please don't take that as a jab to someone like you who has spent your years in the business educating yourself and your clients.  I'm just saying that perhaps you may be an exception and not the rule.

P.S.  I'm also very often accused of being too blunt and "in-your-face" honest.  Someone even recently said to me that I was "honest to a fault".  You know what?  That's ok with me.

Have a good day Darin.  :)

Darin... as you and I talked about, we need to keep blogging about this.  Can people view these kinds of blogs and comments as negative?  Sure, but how do you write something as you did or as I do and make it sound positive?  It's reality and people need to wake up. I am sick and tired of loan officers telling me that I am rude in comments, when all I am debating is the truth.. and not false opinions. I can't win them all... but some of us need to stop writing blogs that are opinions, that sound like they are factual.  Nice rant here... and thanks for the link love..

Darin, tell us how you really feel buddy!:-))

Thanks for saying it like it is. Ours is an incredibly complex industry and (ok, I know I'm setting myself up for a bashing here...) the lending part of it is likely the most intense. No one person can know everything we need to know, and sometimes we will all be wrong. That's why we need to correct mis-information on posts, and try to keep the info accurate. Too many are counting on us, and we can't let them down.

Keep raising that bar D-Money! When I have a hard time reaching it I'll ask you for a push!

Amen, Brother D!

Part of job these days, especially with the Internet being a microphone anyone can use to dispense information, is to help get reliable and accurate information to the masses.

And I love learning from guys like you!

D-Mo, well put! As you know, I have been in this terrific business far too long. The phenomenon of fellow 'professionals' spreading the proverbial 'Bull' has gone on since the beginning of time, long before the advent of Internet blogging sites like this one. Folks like us have been combating mis-information for what seems like forever. Though the increased volume the Internet has put before us certainly makes the task more daunting. We'll keep fighting the good fight just like we have been since we started in this business. Information is powerful. Mis-inforamtion is dangerous.

Donna-  As i said to another realtor who commented, THANK YOU for doing what you are doing!  I understand being honest to a fault, but as long as we do it with diplomacy, and empathy, we will all be fine!  I think alot of consumers, realtors, and lenders alike, have all been in the same position as the customer at one point in their life, so WE NEED to help them all understand we are people too!  Thanks again for your words!  Keep selling, and if you ever want a 2nd opinion on something you are working on, please let me know!

Jeff-  As always, straight to the heart of the matter!  You know I have been told for YEARS that perception is reality...fact is, that we all need to realize who falls WITHIN that reality!  I think we need to focus on the strengths of peoples blog, and not ATTACK the mistakes!  We all make them, gosh knows I have...and recently, on a HORRIBLY written blog by one of the people that caused ME to write this blog, I actually commenting a 3rd time, and I qoute, "I stand corrected".  That is a hard thing for any of use that are left in the busines to say, because we know we are good at our jobs!  The fact is, this is a PROFESSION!!! NOT a job!!!  :)   Thanks again!

Gerry-  I always listen intently to what YOU have to say!  I will blog, reblog and answer anything involving you or your company at any time!  I appreciate your comments, and we all need experience people such as yourself on our side!   Thanks and Ill support YOUR rants any time!

Mr. Sardi-  I understand you are running for Mayor?  GOOD LUCK!  You are such a fine diplomat, not wanting to ruffles feathers!  That in and of itself earns you respect amongst your peers, and dont let YOUR time in the business EVER keep you from playing with the big boys!  In fact, it is easier to help a guy like you, than probably a guy like me!  You know, the old dogs, new tricks thing!  You are living proof that with a positive approach and professional attitude, we can all go far in this line of work!  Thanks!

Scott-  I have been in this business since Land of the Lost and the Sleestacks were on TV!!  I understand the plight!  In fact, when I got in, it was the FINANCE COMPANIES that we were fighting with!  WHY hasnt anyone in this BAILOUT fiasco talked about the rates THEY CHARGE< or the check into cash places!  Come on!  How about gift cards chargin monthly fees??  THE LIST GOES ON!  The sooner we stop blaming others, and taking control over what we can control, the better off we all will be!  Thanks for the words!
