Barack, Inc.

Winning Business Lessons of the Obama Campaign.

I ran across this book and decided to give it a read.  I figured that it didn't matter if I was Republican or Democrat, maybe I could learn something from the Obama Campaign. Furthermore, I thought I may be able to apply it to my real estate practice in Burlington Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.

Upon opening the book, I read the following

"Who among us ever fully believed that a Cinderella candidate could soar out of Illinois obscurity and become the 44th President of the United States, confounding dozens of world-renowned politicos in the process?  Yet Barack Obama managed to beat the Republican party at it's own game with discipline, organization and massive fund raising".

Hmmm......If I can figure out how they did that, maybe I can do some of the same.  The next 146 pages has only four chapters and four main themes.

1. Success You Can Believe In - And Emulate

2. Be Cool

3.  Be Social

4.  Be The Change

The themes are simple, yet obvious.  Happy Reading

Interesting titles on the chapters.  there is no doubt, he was the coolest candidate we've ever seen... Not sure I can achieve his level of cool...  may have to check out the book for pointers.

Leander - It sounds like an interesting read.  Have you come across practices that you can apply to your life or business?

Leander, you have to give the man credit. He never took his eye off the goal and was willing to use some unconventional methods in his campaign--to the consternation of his opponents. He set the new standard for campaigning and, as you state, for success in general.

Erik,

I am just on first chapter, and i see something I definitely can use. Be cool....means focus on the real issue and don't get upset.  Do look to place blame, but rather focus on a solution to the problem. I had to back up and highlight quite a few things

Hi Leander, I absolutely love the chapter titles.  From everything I've heard (and it's all I watched for months!) the campaign was superbly organized so there's got to be some great stuff in that book. I think I saw the author[s] on tv but I'm glad to read this - reminds me to add it to my "books to get" list. Thanks!

He certainly set the tech world on fire with his use of Twitter and Facebook. Google it to see what I mean.

Interesting. I fear he is trying to be "too" cool from what I see. Anyways, there is no doubt he used social media to his advantage and we can learn from it.
