I received the following in an email from a Beverly, MA real estate agent today.

Some people say they want to wait for a clearer view of the future. But when the future is again clear, the present bargains will have vanished. In fact, does anyone think that today’s prices will prevail once full confidence has been restored?

That comment was made 77 years ago by Dean Witter in May of 1932 – only a few weeks before the end of the worst bear market in history. History continues to provide us valuable lessons for the future, if we are willing to listen.

What do you think?

Richard,

Thank you for sharing the words of wisdom from Dean Witter.   For those who listen and go against the crowd, there is opportunity to be had.   People were rushing in to buy homes when the home prices were going up a few years ago and they did not give a thought to it then. Now that home prices are coming down and sellers more willing to negotiate, people are concerned with paying too much (who would have thought that a few years ago?).  Instead, they need to realize the rare opportunity and take advantage of it.  It sure is a better time to buy now than a few years ago.  The market and the lessons from history are suggesting that it is a great time to buy!

I definitely agree that this is the best time to buy with such an an inventory of properties, whether being sold by motivated sellers, REO's FSBOs, foreclosed, short sales, The opportunities are knocking at the door, will you listen now or have many regrets later.
