Moving to Michigan and trying to find an area that matches your families active outdoor life style?  Are you looking for home that has lots of outdoor activities within a short driving distance?  Then Oakland County might be an area you might want to research more.

Oakland Countyis north and west of Detroit.  It is has the second largest county population in Michigan.  Oakland County has Yuppie communities, lake communities, exclusive high end communities, middle and upper middle class areas.  There is a home and community for every life style, and every family.

What is great about Oakland County is the great variety of leisure, lake, and recreation areas.  Oakland County has:

  • 362 lakes
  • 78 public & private golf courses
  • 3 state parks
  • 3 snow skiing areas
  • 6 state recreation areas
  • 2 metro parks
  • over 83,000 acres of parks

362 Southeastern Michigan lakes to water ski, fish, sail, or swim in.  Many have public access or public beaches so everybody can enjoy them.  Even in the winter the lakes have people snowmobiling on them, ice fishing, or skating on.  What is nicer than waking up every morning and seeing a lake out in front.... Oakland County waterfront properties range from $100,000 to $10,000,000

78 golf courses in Oakland County .  Think about it you could go to a different course every five days and never be bored about golfing the same course.  Oakland County has more golf courses than any other county in Michigan.http://www.iclipart.com

71 Oakland County parks that have lots of trails for hiking, biking, cross country skiing, horses, and even snowmobiling.

There is so much to do for the whole family in Oakland County.  Skate Parks, snow skiing areas, dog parks, and so much more.  So much to explore.  You could live here a lifetime and never get to explore the whole county.  Probably because if you are like me, you will love a few areas and keep returning with your family year after year.

I hope this little guide helps you think more about exploring Oakland County as a place to live.  It is a great place to live and most likely just a short drive to your new job.

Russ, even though I've lived in the Metro Detroit area all of my life, there is still so much to learn and see.  My youngest son lives in Oakland County and each time I drive out to his area I am enthralled by all the pretty inland lakes.
