He Built it with his own hands. And it flys!

My brother in law built this plane with his own hands. I was there a time or two during the building process. It was sort of like he glued a whole bunch of popsickle sticks together. I know if I were to try building something like this I would never try to leave the ground in it. This thing is really cool. He tells me that when he flys above the freeway the cars go faster than his plane.

wow, that is technologically amazing when an individual can do something like that.  I wish I had the skill and patience to do something like that.

That is cool, your brother in law is braver than I, I don't think that I would fly above the freeway, it scares me enough just driving it some days!  I applaud your brother in law, it is a testament to craftsmanship that something that he built flies.

wow, your brother is either very brave or just plain crazy. I am sure people said that about the Wright Brothers as well. That is an amazing adult sized model airplane. Good for your brother in his self confidence and in following his passion. However I will keep my feet on the ground. Selling real estate has all the risk I want. :0)

Hi Randy,

Your brother-in-law's plane is VERY cool! I grew up in a family of world-renown aerobatic pilots, and it reminds me of a scaled-down version of the Stermans they used to fly.

Here's one Ray Stits (a friend of my dad and uncles) built back in 1952. As I recall my dad was one of the few people to fly this one. They're ALL crazy!   : )

Randy, she's a real beauty! I'm thankful we still have people in the world with this kind of ingenuity. Does he take is kids up? I'd be scared. These things are not foolproof.

Robert,

Thanks for your comment, You know it seems like it came in some sort of kit. I think it took 14 months or so. to build.

Tony & Darcy,

He is very confident. He has had his pilots license for 20 years or so. Afriend of my parents was building a plane many years ago and every time my brother in law came to town he would go down and see the progress. He was already an accomplished wood worker. He sent away for a kit and built the plane.

Doug,

Great comment, Real Estate is crazy enough isn't it? He isn't so much brave as he is brilliant and confident. I'll post a picture of his next plane soon. This one only seats one. He has the leather helmet and goggles because it is an open cockpit.

Michael,

I hope someday I wiil see a post here with your plane on it. There are kits available. Good Luck

Charles,

It is not big enough for me to sit in. I am 6'5" and can't fit into this little one seater. My kids have sat in it.

Michael C.

That is a cool plane, Thanks for sharing it with us. Were you able to see any of the aerobatic shows? That would have been fun to watch.

Vicki,

His kids would love to fly in it with him but it is a one seater. I guess the moral of the story is "It will never get off the ground if you don't start building it."

Liz,

I can only imagine how excititng it would be to be behind the controls. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Randy,

Oh, yeah! We spent a LOT of time at airports all over the place. And they did some pretty crazy stuff. It was back in the 50s and 60s, and they did a lot of the old barnstorming type of stunts. Wingwalkers, plane-to-plane transfers, car-to-plane transfers, landing a plane on a moving car, all that kind of stuff. But they were good.

BTW -Your brother-in-laws' plane looks like it would be an absolute blast to fly!

Michael,

It would have been fun to see those shows. He has fun flying it but he spends more time in his new plane which he also built with his own hands. It is a two seater and used thousands or millions of rivets. I'll post a picture of it soon. I may have to take another picture as I can't find one in my files.

BTW I love CPG tours, they are very easy to use.

Hi Randy,

You're right. Even as a kid, they were fun to watch.

By all means, post some pictures of his other plane when you get them. I (for one) would love to see them! If he's not already a member, your brother-in-law may enjoy the EAA.

And thank you for the compliment on our tours. I really appreciate that.

Michael,

I will post it when I get it. I'll check and see if he has seen that sight.

Terry,

Have you ever flown a plane? I went up with a friend who did a great job of making me think that I flew his plane. It was a 4 seater with dual controls in the front. The scary part is when he wanted me to land the plane as well. He ran the flaps and air speed. It was pretty exciting. Thanks for commenting on my nephew up front. He was so interested in the plane and couldn't get enough of it. You are very observant.
