Your Email Address, Does It Send Another Message?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Frank & Jodi Orlando Get Us A Home Realty Atlanta Homes Sale

 Atlanta Homes Sale

Much like a home for sale, the first priority is NOT sending a negative impression to a perspective home buyer. Curb appeal, a nice front door with a shiny lock and door knob will allow buyers to see the home with a neutral point of view. So, what signal are you sending clients with your email address? Do you think it does not matter? If you happened upon 2 web sites and the email addresses are:

My company, Get Us A Home Realty and my address is Frank@GetUsAHome.com & Jodi's company which is AtlantaRelocate.com, her address is Jodi@AtlantaRelocate.com

                                                             or

We Sell Atlanta Real Estate, and the address is JohnDoe@hotmail.com

Who would you more likely contact? We see agents who have been in business a long time with email addresses more suited for casual contact than a professional appearance. Does it matter? We think it does, once someone has found your website, which looks professional and is user friendly, why give the impression you have just entered the business with a yahoo or hot mail email address? We have an 888 toll free number, it is seldom used nowadays, it forwards calls to my cell phone. Why do it? We are a small company and it is imperative that we make an impression. Also folks will remember your address and company more easily with this type email address. Give yourself every chance you can to make an impression on a perspective client, and this is a inexpensive way to do it. Good Luck!

I am glad I found your post as I have been considering a change this week.  I have been an AOL member for 15 years and had tried making it as professional as possible (JWalkerDerby@aol.com)

My problem is that my name is so long that my email would be:

jennifer@jenniferwalkerderby.com

that's a pretty long email however after reading this I realize I need to make the change.

I like the custom domains with awareness of brand building. After moving into a new market I had to choose a long domain name, but it's still MY brand!

I couldn't agree more.  It is a real pet peeve for me.  I have agents that want to keep their yahoo accounts when they come into my office.  I have to insist otherwise.  Those that don't understand my view point are usually the ones that don't make it in the business.

J Philip, Luv2Dance? You saw that? Yeah, that's REAL professional.

Kristen, It does not have to be perfect (in my opinion) but it should at least be real estate based.

Charles, Thanks, websites are my next priority.

Steven, LOL, add those to the unimaginable list we have seen so far!

Sheldon, LOLOLOL thanks for laugh!

Zilkia, Easy fix, one of the simplest...

Kathleen, In my opinion, you are a pro.

JB, Cannot believe there are a couple folks that do not agree. Oh well, to each their own.

Bruce & Mary, Bet you you have successfull websites also.

Jennifer, If that is your website USE IT! That is who you are and there is a chance clients will remember the address & or your website!

Mike, Exactly, sometimes it's a freebie, use it.

Laura, You have a nice address.

Bruce, Enough comments here to say it is important. Surprisingly many do pay attention to the address.

Don't think it makes a difference. People keep tell 'us - me' that but I don't think people care less unless it says something nasty.  It's not like your business card, stationary or blog header.  BTW what does your blog header say about you?

I agree a bunch, I have both addresses and use my ARhouse.com (Ayre/Rhinehart Realtors)  one for business and my charter one for personal stuff,  I get them all on my computers and phone so it doesn't matter and most of the time the people don't know except they see the ARhouse.com one.  When I hit reply it goes to the original one I sent it from so no one knows.

Frank and Jodi,

Your so right I am a bit guilty of this however. :( I have an aol email acount and am trying to get everything switched over to my business email. I'm just afraid I'm going to lose some people that have my email saved under the aol account. It's a slow process but I am definately woroking on it. Thanks for factualizing my concerns of a lame aol account! lol

Lyn, No problem, what do you mean about blog header?

Mary, seems to be about 5 to 1 folks agree with you.

Michael, Heck, even if tech challenged a friend could do it in minutes.

Lisa, I did'nt even mention AOL in the blog, but, many of the comments are aimed at AOL.

Schuelke Plumbing - Los Angeles, CA

We use both at our plumbing company, simply because of the amount of spam email we receive. Clients and business contacts use our company email address, but we use Yahoo email when we attend conferences and conventions. It is easier to delete the hundreds of emails we receive after each event, and save our 'real' email for business.

Frank,

Good post! I never understood why some people setup websites and then continued to use there free hotmail or gmail accounts. Take the next step and setup your own email addy on your domain.
