My Kids Fascinate Me...

They really, really do.

No matter how "creative" or "bad" they get I can't help admiring their tenacity to get what they want. Is it a Mommy thing? Blogger thing? I live with a bunch of crazy people who make my life as the head crazy person really interesting thing?

I dunno...

All I know is that I love them dearly and when they actually use words to ask for stuff I get very excited because it can be really frustrating dealing with two learning disabled kids. BTW, both are speech delayed and Stephen is learning sign language (translated: I'm learning sign language - LOL).

Sometimes I think that is why eye candy is so important to me. I can take lots of pictures and the 2 year old will sort through them and select items he likes. He will arrange them and indicate what he wants. The infamous, "This One" is one of my favorite phrases because he always says it with such certainty, as if he knows when he asks for something from Mommy and Daddy, we will stop at nothing to get it for him.

Does that trait in a parent encourage more speech or are we creating a monster down the road? I honestly don't know. We do very interesting things when we love someone. Today's extreme blog sport concerns water views. I'm going out in 26 degree weather because my kid wants to go to Canarsie Pier. Seems he wants to see the ocean from the Brooklyn shore line. Will have some little minion eye candy for you guys later.

Turns out my kids are snow bunnies just like their Mama. Sometimes I wonder if that is a good thing... After all, Daddy likes hot weather. We are eventually relocating to FL. Hmm... ;-)

C...

It's the classic dilemma ... is it enabling or nurturing? That's a tough call, because while you may effectively communicate with your children, there's a big world out there that may not be so accommodating.

But mothers instinctively know what to do, so I would suggest that you trust your inclinations. Have a great weekend!

Ah, the things we do for our kids.  Your post is very sweet, and it reminds me of the song that I would sing to my sons at bedtime every single night.  I still sing it to them whenever I can, even at 21 and 19 years old!

"Although you see the world different than me
Sometimes I can touch upon the wonders that you see
All the new colors and pictures you've designed
Oh yes, sweet darling
So glad you are a child of mine"

Carolyn, kids are very persistent with what they want. Great little minion salespeople. As they grow older more of the verbal skills will develop and they will become chatterboxes. Is that hereditary? ; )

Carolyn, I can totally relate to liking the cold, I miss seeing & playing in the snow since moving to GA!!! At least we still get the {{{cold}}} snap here.

Waking up to degrees in the teens the last few days really get the blood going. My husband as yours love the warm weather, go figure.

Looking forward to the pictures w/ your little ones.

Carolyn - you demonstrate patience that I rarely see in a mother, usually this type of attitude is found in grandmas ... like me ... who know that most of the daily "stuff" isn't worth getting upset over any how!  Great Job!

Hi Carolyn - One thing no-one can ever take from you is your commitment as a mother. It shines in everything you do. I don't have any kids, but if I did I would hope to be as dedicated you are....and my mother was. I hope one day, both your boys come to appreciate that what you gave them is not the norm.

Big Mike, thank you. I love you very much so don't do YouTube embeds, posts links instead. YouTube is in a huge copyright war with some European companies and you do not want to get dragged into it (LOL).

Gail, when your entire family is abnormal the common life is not so common (LMAO). After meeting my little minions, I' not sure I would want normal kids. I keep telling them they were wired differently for a reason. We just have to figure it out  (LOL).

C-Tann !

I am constantly reminded that these little ones are like little sponges - soaking in everything that they lay their eyes (and ears) on !

Then when they process it all and replay it with their own little personality - it always brings a smile to my face ! My 3 yr old boy seems like he is 13 sometimes - and yes, often like your little one, makes statements with such conviction that you would believe he has researched all the different possiblities and determined the only possible option is "This One" !!!!!!

Cute post !

Sheldon :o)

There is nothing wrong with getting (or doing) something for your children just because you love them.  You want them to have things that maybe you didnt have, or maybe you just want them to be happy.  I see nothing wrong with it.  Enjoy the pier

C - I don't have the answer but here is a confession. I told my son if he did well in first grade he would go to Disney, he did and I paid.  He is a delightful young man majoring in math so it worked.   The important thing to remember is that each child is different and should be treated accordingly, so do what feels right for you.

Not a snow bunny here so i'm with daddy and the relocation to Florida (except that i'm afraid of lizards).  Think of all the great new eye candy available and all the wonderful new things they will discover.  I bet you will hear "This One" all the time.
