The past week has been pretty overwhelming in light of a significant family loss and yet I sit here writing this truly inspired.legacy With all that clutters our lives from the day to day grind it is so important that we set aside time each day to appreciate and enjoy the people around us. I've recently been asked why I don't spend more time writing about mortgage products since that is what I am so good at. My only response is that of my own personal motto "People simply don't care about what you know, until they know you truly care". This is true for the family member we recently lost.

Grandma was more than just a woman of faith, a woman of compassion or a woman of love. She was someone people loved as though she was their grandma. She faithfully attended a local church in phoenix every single week no matter what was going on in her life. A few days after a major heart surgery she insisted she go to church. Every time she set foot in my house she would come and find me and demand I "put an arm around her neck". She wasn't even my side of the family and yet I felt like she was my own grandmother. Every single place she went she told everyone about her faith whether you liked it or not. You see this isn't about just another religious little old lady. She had endured years of suffering, pain, family turmoil and poor finances. Yet when I looked at this woman all I saw was a truly joyful and loving human being who NEVER complained. She always put others first and never worried about her own welfare. In a society ridden with immorality and fool heartedness she was a beacon of light.

What she taught me was that leaving a legacy to my family and friends is by far the measure of a good life lived. What I realize more than ever is that my title, position and even money are worthless without a love to back them all. I want to be able to look back and know that above all else my family and friends knew that they were loved beyond measure. Take a moment to think about the legacy you are living and stop to show the ones around you that they are loved.

Jacob, I'm sorry for your loss.  Your grandmother sounds like a lovely and wonderful woman who knew what real living was about.  Nevertheless she'd be happy with the lessons you gained from her life.  God bless.

This is the type of legacy that should be cherished.  It seems like she has left behind a powerful legacy.  I wrote a piece about legacies and lasting impact a while back.  From what you say about your grandmother, her life created something lasting, and worth more than the typical "lasting impact" that people usually make in today's world.

Sad to hear of your loss, but she's now at a better place.

Jacob,

I am sorry to hear of your family's loss.  I'm sure she will be missed by the many individuals she has touched.  She must have been a wonderful example to everyone who knew her.

I am thankful we know that you and your family will see her again.

I ask the Lord to give you all comfort and peace during this time.

Have a Blessed week.

I am sorry for your loss.  It seems like you knew wise people.  That wisdom will be passed on and one that will keep a life from that past living in the future.

When my mom died I was 7 years old....I did not recover from that for a LONG time, Jacob......

When my dad died it did not take as long (I was 33 years old)..... about 1 year...the loss was horrible the first couple of months....

I am glad for the good examples my parents had....I hope to leave a legacy that gives my stepkids and grandkids inspiration for the rest of their lives.....

GREAT POST!!

Jacob-

It is apparent that your Grandmother left behind a beautiful legacy, children who believe in the wonderful God that we serve. I will pray that you'll be comforted in knowing that she is in heaven, and in her legacy, she has left an inheritance in the kingdom for you to enjoy. She's at peace, knowing that she'll see you when the time comes. Sorry about your loss, I will pray for you and your family

Amen to that...she sounds like she was a truly remarkable women. It is so sad to lose a grandmother, I lost my both within 2 months of each other and that was tough, even to this day.

I now see the importance of making time for loved ones, when I have to admit in the past I did not. With age comes wisdom.

God Bless you,

My parents both died in the last few years but the song we picked for my dad's funeral was" The Ones Left Standing Carry On" & we do - Leaving a Legacy.
