Anyone that knows me... Knows that I am a very POSITIVE and fun person - and I love what I do and I am good at it. What I don't love... IS other people in my profession that are GRUMPY, negative and condescending... Which unfortunately I have ran into a LOT lately and honestly I am sick of it. I do not complain about many things... But my hope out of this blog post is to help those that might be part of this group of GRUMPY REALTORS to figure out that it is very irritating to other Realtors that are not... And truly - I don't feel like working with GRUMPY Realtors... Real Estate is a great profession and there are some great Realtors out there. I have a good number of Realtors in my area that I love to work with and that I get all warm and fuzzy when they show my listings because I know the deal will go very well and be very pleasant. THEN there are a few that I cringe when I see they show my listings... I just think that Real Estate agents should go by the golden rule - Treat Others as you wish to be treated... WHY would they even be in this "people business" if they are not good with people? UUURRGH.

I DO NOT GET IT... Why in the world would another Realtor want to treat a fellow Realtor with disrespect or negativity... I get the feeling sometimes that they think talking down to me or being short or negative that they are going to get further or a better deal or something for their clients. How can they rationalize this? There are other professions that the Grumpy Realtors could get into. I think they should either change their attitude or GET OUT! Sorry for being so blunt - but it is very irritating...

ANY ONE ELSE FEEL THIS WAY???

How can we help these GRUMPY people? First thing (if you are a Grumpy person) figure out why you are that way - read a book about it or something. Then read the book "The Secret" - maybe this might help. Any one else that wants to share ideas - maybe we can make a small impact in the world... I would like to see more positive and energetic people in the Real Estate field. Feel free to email me if you need some positive thoughts to get you started. nicky@nickydou.com LIFE IS GOOD!

Lots of the old grumpy agents in Pacific Palisades who still are actively selling real estate are heavy hitting top producers. I always told myself when I got to the top producer level, I would NOT be that way to my clients and other professionals in the industry.

Dominic - thanks for your comment and I hope you keep with your promise to yourself. I know that I will NEVER act that way... I dont get why they have to be that way. Not all are top producers, either or old in my area. I wonder if they treat their clients that way, too?

I say it every day! GET OUT! Especially the ones listing Bank Owned - they think they are G-D

I get the feeling some Realtors are very nice to thier clients and not very nice to other Realtors. It is the 'I am better' syndrome and I think every profession has one or two. It seems whenever they call I don't want to answer the phone and when I have to call them, I wish for voicemail! :)

I've never understood it.  If we all work together, we're going to get much further.  If you're feeling grumpy, it might be time to try something different.

Such a good post. I think we all know more than one in our market. The main one in mine is pretty even keeled--doesn't matter what the market is like--grumpy! We sort of think of her as an old pet, knowing the growl she will make when we approach her but you know what? We will miss her if she ever gets out of the business. But the way she is...she'll be here for at least 100 more years :)

Nicky,  I've ran into some of those grumpys you refer to. But I don't waste my time or energy on people like that...what ever field they may be in. Life IS to good and it's to short. Keep your chin up and stay positive. Being a positive person will bring you greater success and happiness in life.

You ALL know exactly what I am talking about :) thanks at least I am not the only one that feels this way. MAYBE our winning spirit and optimism will win over these grumpy folks to see it our way... I sure hope its SOON!

Donna - I wish I didnt have to waste my time on these people, but I can choose my clients - can't choose the agent that brings me the offers ") LOL! I know you KNOW who some of these are...

Nicky,

Well I guess it boils down to philosophy. Some of the old "winning through intimidation" crew are still left but I think for the most part people are starting to realize that attitude may bring a short term victory (only sometimes) but will eventually bring long term loss. I like John Maxwell's business philosophy. Add value to everyone you meet. I try to be encouraging to my fellow agents. If they don't know something I don't belittle them just because I've been doing this for 20 years. Who knows, maybe someday they'll catch me in a slip up and I'll need the same grace I gave them. Hopefully the grumps will go the way of the dinosaurs.

Nicky...haven't you heard "misery loves company"? They're unhapppy so they want everyone around them to be unhappy. A happy prosperous person will attract the same. I always treat everyone I deal with the way I want to be treated and sometimes if you're dissapointed in someone's attitude it could turn out that something else is going on in their lives that has nothing to do with us. Don't take it personally. Next time you speak to that person treat them like their your new best friend and see what a difference it makes. I've tried it and it works and I gave up nothing doing this except making a new friend.

Larry - thanks for trying to explain their reasoning to me but I doubt I will ever get it. I usually dont let them bother me much actually. A positive attitude always wins!!!

David - LOL! That's funny! I think I want to attract the happy prosperous people (which I usually do - we got to work together, right!!! Thanks for the comment! Best wishes to you this year.

Hi Nicky - More than in recent years, I'm betting there are a lot of real estate agents facing outside pressures. Give them the benefit of the doubt, and keep staying positive. You could be the one that helps them get turned around and back on a positive path.
