Leadership Dynamics of our Era

Just sitting here wondering how much leadership has changed in our era. With the internet and the ability to call all over the world for literally nothing, is it necessary for leaders to be present with those they lead? Years ago it wouldn't be thought of to have a leader lead without being with the people he/she was leading. In fact there wasn't much of a choice. Today leaders are leading by webinars, teleconferences, in convention halls and some even still lead one on one.

Ced, I believe that leaders today must do both: lead in person, as well as lead electronically.

Ced - I feel the most important thing a leader must first do is walk the walk!!! There are way too many hypocrites around these days and whether they lead over the phone, or by TV or web, their reputation for integrity and honesty will come through. Personally that is exactly how I try to lead for I feel that the only thing a person truly owns and can control is his/her own integrity and reputation.

Great post. I don't believe you can ever totally replace face-to-face contact. However, once that is done, following up electronically is a good method. But every once in a while face-to-face contacts should be re-introduced. Great topic to think about.
