Linda Davis and Chris ColterYesterday and today have been pretty amazing.  I have received plenty of tweets, emails and facebook notifications from friends asking about tonight's Voluntown CT Extreme Makeover Home Edition show.  Most who asked about it want to know if I will be on TV tonight?  For those who haven't followed, I was a lead volunteer coordinator for the build of our Connecticut Castle for the very deserving Girard Family in Voluntown CT.

To answer the question:  I have no idea.  If you have ever watched the show, they don't spend a lot of time showing volunteers.  In fact, you might even think that Ty and his design team actually build the house.  HA.

The best chance of spotting my chubby face will be during the Brave Heart March at the very beginning when the volunteers show up or when Ty calls the Girard family in Orlando.  I was right behind Ty during the call.

Tonight the build team with their brown coats, volunteers with their blue shirts, and the whole dang community will come together to celebrate ABC's Voluntown Extreme Makeover - Home Edition.  The 42 minutes of ABC's production is only a part of the festivities.

The doors will open at 6:15 for a 1-hour "Behind the Scenes" video.  I'm guessing this will be the part of the evening that volunteers will enjoy most. I expect the hootin' and hollerin' to take place during the pre-show. The Ledyard Jazz Band will be there for the warm up.

I'm using the photo above as my fat photo for Weight Watchers.  I joined on Thursday. Of course, I do have on 4 layers of clothing, a hard hat and I'm wired for radio communication, but that doesn't excuse my chubby face. Sorry Chris, I don't mean to imply you are fat too.  Chris Colter, of Mad Science, was my partner during the CT Extreme Home Makeover project. It was extremely cold but we did eat well.

Hah!  Linda!  I think I saw you there at the build site and didn't even realize it until I just saw this picture.  Funny how a hard hat, a scarve and construction gear can camouflage a lovely woman.  I will be looking for you tonight in the braveheart walk on my TV - I will be home with my family:)  (I remember seeing Chris there too but I didn't know his name 'til now).  Have fun tonight!!

Some hell of a castle Linda...ok so you might not make it on TV..I'm sure your reasons for it were more than getting your face on the tube...I'm sure you were glad to do this for the family. I'll see if I can catch it.

Linda: I'll be watching!  Gotta ask: do they really do a "good" job? Considering how quick the homes are contructed, I often have wondred about this.

Linda, how exciting to be a part of truly helping another family in such a real and tangible way.  I'll be looking for you!  Thank you for posting this to share the news.

Linda, What an amazing person you are for volunteering your time and efforts in to changing a families life.  How cool is that?  All in freezing temperatures as well.  My hat goes off to you!  How in the world does anyone build a house like that in 106 hours? WOW!

As for you being on TV...do they not know who you are?  lol...I'll be looking for your beautiful face on the big screen!

Linda,

This is an absolutely wonderful story!  The fact that you took the time to be a lead volunteer shows how commited you are to your community, and goes a long way to explain the kind of person you are as well as how you would be as a realtor.  Best of luck to you!

Great cause and wow what a tragic story.  To think this kind of story is all around us and in most cases we don't even know.  I enjoy this show and watch it weekly, but it is nice to have a face to put with the people.  What a home was built!  Yes, I did see you when you all first got there and were standing in the circle around Ty.  Great job working with all those volunteers.

Linda, that is fabulous. How exciting to be a part of that. And the house is gorgeous! So, it is the volunteers who do it all? I knew they helped but had no idea that the entire house is built all by volunteers. I'm sure you scored some points up above on this one.  And your face looks fine and healthy! That's the important thing.

Linda,

Congratulations on doing the hard work. Glad to know there are people like you who volunteer and do the work and do it because it  is the right thing to do. I guess the people who come across as the most altrustic such as Ty and the design crew perhaps do the concepts but perhaps come up short, after all would they be able to do as well if they didn't have the financial sponsors? I personally don't want to sell anyone short, because I don't really know people's intentions. But, in the highest form of charity of the heart are the ones who give freely donations anonymously. Enjoy your posts that you do just because you want to share your thoughts.

Thank you everyone for the kind words!  Just to answer a few questions.  The house is surprisingly well built despite being built in only 106 hours.  As an example, instead of just two or three roofers on the roof, there are more like 20-25, instead of 1 painter painting the inside there were probably 50 painters. That is how they are able to move much quicker.  All the work is done by licensed professionals.

I did show up on TV. Thank you to everyone who sent emails and snagged photos.  Here are some from my friend Sid Minor in Atlanta!   http://www.flickr.com/photos/16873113@N00/

For those who thanked me for volunteering...it is not necessary.  In the end, I received so much more than I gave.

How exiting. We had an Extreme Makeover in Flagstaff a few years ago -- for the family of one of the first women soldiers killed in Iraq. It was such a mixture of sadness and joy to see her children have a wonderful new home with their grandparents.
