My best quarter in 2008 was the 4th.  Jan. 2009 was my highest earning month ever.  My phone rings every day with requests for staging bids.  There are quite a few people out there who decide they can't afford my fee and I don't get hired - but I keep going out on the calls and I don't get discouraged.  The jobs I do get are well-paying.  I never fell into the trend of free or cheap home staging.  To me, that conveys an aura of desperation and lack of worth.  I am a trained professional.  I invested much time and money in my education, training and inventory.  I value my services and others do also.  Keep putting yourself out there in the presence of people who might hire you.  It's not the funnest thing to do, but you have to push yourself to get out in front of people.

Joan, as with you, our best quarter was the 4th of 2008.  The first quarter of 2009 is exceeding that already.

Great encouragement for those of us just getting started.  I refuse to believe "the media" about how BAD things are.  Let's just keep working and making the good things happen!

I gave 5 bids from Thanksgiving to just before Christmas and didn't get any of the jobs.  Only one I  know of was actually staged by someone else, the rest are still vacant, but I'm with you.  I just keep putting myself out there.  I'm worth every dime.  I love what I do and I think it shows.  Thanks for the post.

I believe in your statement about free or cheap staging.  It is hard in the area I live in - we don't have many people that even know what staging is, let alone think they should have to pay for it.  I spend alot of my time educating the public on what I can actually do for them.  As Staging becomes more popular, so do the frequency of phone calls for bids.

Thank you for the encouragement. If you don't "play" you can't "win". Perseverance is everything!

Joan,  I know your abilities first hand as you staged my friends vacant home out in York and did a great job with it.  The lady who bought it brought her entire family, parents & boyfriend over to see it and we all made ourselves comfortable in the living room, just soaking up the atmosphere.  You are worth every dime that you charge and more.  Good luck in the future and please check out my blog on selling homes as the one I will be writing this evening is all about preparing a home for sale.

Take care!
