Cayucos is one of those few small beach communities in California where time has almost forgotten.
It's easy to unwind in this laid-back town where the sun ‘smiles' almost year round, and waves beckon you to the warm sand. Cayucos, meaning kayak or canoe, is located along the Pacific Coast; mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Driving distance is about four hours one-way in either direction. The closest metropolitan city is San Luis Obispo, about 20 miles or 30 minutes south on Highway One.
The town boasts about 3,000 people and approximately 2,000 homes in about 3 ½ sq. mile area. There is a town proper along South Ocean Avenue or the main street in downtown Cayucos, located west of Highway One, and a sub-community in South Cayucos where homes "planted" against the hills yield panoramic views of the Estero Bay.
One of the most spectacular views to behold is the stretch of beach, or the Strand as you leave Morro Bay northbound on Highway One towards Cayucos. The combination of sand, sparkles above the deep blue sea and bright sunshine sometimes literally takes your breath away, and makes you want to stay when you approach town.
Caycuos portrays an idllyic place of beautiful outdoors, great weather, friendly locals, fun-filled stores, unique events and fairs. This is the place where I now call home.
