Recycle Your Old TV

May 16, 2009

With the transition to digital TV scheduled to take place in June, some people will choose to purchase a digital television.

If you do decide to purchase a new TV and no longer want your old TV, the City's Solid Waste Division will collect your TV at the curb if you notify them 24 hours before your regularly scheduled pick-up day.

But before you do that, please consider recycling it. Recycling TVs recovers valuable materials from the circuit boards, metal, wiring, leaded glass and plastics. For your convenience, the City of Greenville will host a free electronics and fluorescent bulb recycling event for city residents on May 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at 360 South Hudson Street.

Hey, Marci. I love the fact that you can recycle your old set. Good way to keep them out of the land fills. Thanks and take care, Jim

I would suggest not to run out and purchase a new TV but instead buy a digital tuner until your old TV bites the dust. Please ignore the 50 inch plasma in my living room since it replaced an old TV that had died. Seriously, it died. It had nothing to do with wanting a big flat screen really really bad. That is my story and I am sticking to it.
