If your going to San Francisco as the 60's song goes don't wear flowers in your hair, find the non-tourist restaurants. Since I have the pleasure of going to SF often I get to add to my favorite places to eat. Some on the older list are Bix Restaurant in the Financial district, A16 in the Marina District , Cafe Gratitude Vegan food with multiple locations, and The Slanted Door at the Pier and Ferry building at the Embarcadero. On this trip to CRS Sellabration we loved Saha, an Arabic Fusion Restaurant, 1550Hyde which is also the address in Russian Hill, B44 a Catalan Style Cafe with small plates and entrees, and Yank Sing, a Chinese Dim Sum Brunch on weekends. I have linked the ones that have web sites so that you can read a menu. This is by no means all the places we like, but I am happy everytime I have the opportunity to go to any one of these. Don't be scared by Arabic Fusion, it is a delight and none of the food is weird. B44 and 1550Hyde are smaller places, and the service is equal to the food. B44 has wonderful paella, and 1550Hyde which only has 42 seats has a California style menu, and the desserts are over the top. The Dim Sum at Yank Sing is high quality and all the servers are wired up, so if you want something particular, the director sends a message to a server who magically appears. I will be back in June so hopefully some more places will be found. Oops, I forgot to mention Azumo for Sushi and Japanese cuisine, and The Water Bar if nothing else for drinks outside in the evening with a nice view of the Bay Bridge.
