Okay, I'm really not big on the "fan club" American trail. Really. I'm too concerned with our economy and our futures to follow Starlets or the rag mags.

But, (butt, if you want to get gross), poor Jessica Simpson . She's been in the limelight now for the last couple of weeks....you bet. And, why you ask? Well let's see, the major headlines have been "Jessica puts on weight" or "Jessica forgets her lyrics" or "Why is Jessica the talk of the town?"fat.png fat person image by billy_martin5

Well duh. We are in such a single minded, brainwashed, uppety, MARKET DRIVEN society that we are now making our children believe that if they have any extra weight on them that they are the OUTCASTS. Trust me here, I'm not preaching obesity or lousy eating habits or lack of exercise, but what I am preaching is the potential damage to our childrens' psyches and ability to foster a normal amount of self-esteem.

What I am talking about is the future of our childrens' ability to distinguish the two factors of "who they are" or "what they look like". Our society, by expecting perfection is breeding illness and self loathing in our young society that just can't be PERFECT everyday.

So, if the body is not "perfect" by your standards and you have a bad day and just can't get it together then you are considered "THE FALLEN". And, are no longer worthy of our attention. Phew. I wish our general public would grow up, gain loyalty and respect for one of our own. If you can't do that for a single Starlet...then how do you expect any one "person" to turn our economy around and create a better world?

It takes looking into ones own soul and standing without judgment to "accept" what is.

I just had to say this...

Oh my I can't believe I have missed all this about POOR JESSICA!  To be quite honest I don't even know what poor Jessica looks like so I wouldn't know if she had lost or gained weight.

Marchy my friend, I don't try and read about these things either. But, all you have to do is pull up Yahoo and it's plastered all over it. How did you miss that? I don't really know her either or her songs or whatever. I've only seen her on the acne commercials...hum. My point though is that my grandkids DO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS STUFF. I worry about the weight thing being such a big deal. Don't go looking for it. It's just rag mag reading.

The moral of the story is a good one, never judge a book by its cover or a gal by her looks.  Never expect perfection from a mere human.  No matter who he or she is... we are mere mortals after all.

The thing in life Deb, ALL of us are not perfect in many ways, and we just have to learn to accept that.

Hi Deb! You know, I don't know if it's because she's just one that has not been into alcohol or drugs and just seems to be a 'sweetie' or what but, I DO feel sorry for her!  SO WHAT if she's put on a few pounds--at least she's not drinking and drugging like most of our celebs!  I'd rather my daughters (if I had one!) grow up to be a little overweight than with the morals and behavior that the VAST majority of the celebrities display.  Great moral to your story there, Deb!

I remember a line form Notting Hill when Julia Roberts says as an actress she has been hungry for the last 10 years - it looks like fun, but I think it actually is a pretty miserable life for most people in the media.

There isn't anything wrong with Jessica or the size of her crapper. She's hot & always will be.

Deb, the media will spin out a web of crap to grab viewers no matter who they hurt in the process.  I think Don Henley hit it righton the money when he penned "Dirty Laundry" back in the 80's.  Sad that some girls out there will look at themselves with disgust and indifference because of this type of media slander!  Take care and happy blogging!

I applaud you for speaking your mind about something "non-real estate" which affects society so prevalently. It's not just a female issue though, I assure you. As the mother of young boys, they were exposed to the celbrities w/ the "6 pack" abs who never seemed to be able to be filmed with a shirt ON! It's all unrealistic and absurd.

Deb.... I often wonder why there is such a large market for all the paparazzi crap.  As I type I was also wondering what's going on with Jessica but Access Hollywood just did a teaser saying my answers will be coming up in the next half hour....

I have never understood why so many people find these magazines so interesting. The stars are just other people like you and I. I really don't get the whole notion of people caring what the heck they are doing.

You are right though people follow their every move and what you have described is how society thinks.

You keep it up girl. I agree wholeheartedly. We our the generation that HAS to start speaking out for our younger kids to hear. The a couple of the MOST important characteristics a person should have are honesty, a good heart and compassion for others and you don't get those just by molding your body to look like a SUPER model.

I would also add a part of a Bible verse that comes to mind, ".....he who is without sin, let THEM cast the first stone."   I'M JUST SAYING!!!

Great article, Deb.    Happy SELL'ng out there.      My Sig

Hi Deb,

If we just turned the t.v. off more often that would solve 99.999999% of that craziness.

I read the artcles and watched the videos... why?  Im not really sure.  I guess because everyone promoted the pictures and videos and naturally I was curious.  I have to agree that the pants she was wearing during that concert was not flattering.  I don't think its because she is 'fat' like all of the media has claimed.  But you know thats how they look at her because they know about Skinny Jessica.  Its a shame that someone puts on a little weight and the media has to make a big deal of it.  Who cares.  I put on weight, but Im not in the news.  my friends are not talking about it (at least I dont think they are).  When you are in the spotlight, every thing you do is criticized.  It sells papers and sparks interest.

Deb- I'm with Marchel BUT your post has a very tender string attached.  Our society has done a job on the thoughts of people and their looks.  Especially back in the dark ages when figures like Twiggy's was in.  But I am concerned with obesity we as a nation face.  So where's the happy medium?  Something out there has to change for sure....

Deb - Who has the time or interest to even think twice about Jessica when there are far worse issues facing our nation?

My wife and I just had this conversation the other day while in the check out line. I said, what is the deal with the picture? I told her personally I thought she looked better than she did before.

I've never understood why people are so obsessed with weight. Healthy yes, skinny to the point that you will fall through a cattle guard if you were to walk over it? NO!

Instead of being kind to each other our media sells many magazines by tearing and exposing peoples lives to the public. The public can't wait to get their hands on the latest "dirt" on someone. It's like the public is taking pleasure in someonelses misfortunes or just enjoying seeing those people they hold up on their pedestals ridiculed.
