Environmental and Cost Saving Tips are priceless, so when I read the following tips provided by the Smart Energy Living Alliance who’s mission is to help people make smart energy decisions to build a better energy future,  I wanted to share this wealth of knowledge with like minded Eco-Friendly enthusiasts.

1. USE THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE TO SLASH TRIPS. Take advantage of the Click-N-Ship® service from the USPS, it allows you to buy stamps and mail packages without vehicle trips to the post office. You can also save money as some of the services are cheaper on-line.
2. WALK THE STAIRS INSTEAD OF RIDING AN ELEVATOR. If you are healthy, take the stairs rather than riding an elevator; especially an empty elevator. You will stay in shape and save electricity, too.
3. MAKE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFER WITH CFLs PORCH LIGHT. Switch from regular porch lights to energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs; get the whole neighborhood on board by spreading the work at your next HOA meeting.
4. REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS AND BE SAFER BY RIDING THE SCHOOL BUS.  Nationally, 75 percent of the deaths and 84 percent of the injuries that occur during K-12 school travel happen in passenger vehicles traveling to these schools, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. The school bus is a safer option that also reduces fuel use. Biking and walking with adult supervision are healthier for kids than riding in passenger vehicles.
5. BUY MORE FOOD FROM FARMERS MARKETS.  Purchasing more fresh fruits and vegetables from nearby farms, builds up local markets and over time will decrease interstate food trucking and the vast amounts of fuel it requires.
6. SELECT AN ECOBROKER. Some real estate pros, including Arbour Realty associates, are earning special EcoBroker® certification that empowers them to advise clients on the energy-efficiency and environmental conditions, choices and advantages of home buying options.
7. CALL FIRST! Unless you are certain, call first so you don’t waste a vehicle trip by driving
to a store that is closed or doesn’t have what you want. This practice can help you consolidate errands, shop online more and drive less.
8. LEAVE THE BOTTLED WATER ON THE SHELF. Plastic water bottles consume colossal
amounts of fossil fuels in their manufacture and delivery. The American Water Works Association concludes drinking 64 ounces of tap water daily from refillable containers costs about 50 cents annually.

If we could all incorporate a couple of these tips into our daily routine it would make a world of environmental difference. Please share these tips with friends and family, and let me know if you have any additional ones.
