Paralllel Blog

 Dear Blog Creator

Do you know who I am?  I dance alongside; inside & outside your blog, dipping into your thoughts, skirting or delving into issues, hopefully minding my manners & welcoming your visitors.

It's my job to create the secondary "first impression".  The one that people view to get a more in depth view of who is writing the text.  I show up in a variety of venues & search engines love to feed on my content.  I'm your second chance to convince someone that your thoughts merit attention...I am your parallel blog.

 *************

  •
    • Recognizing the fact that your blog readers are evaluating you from two perspectives..the blog you write & the responses/comments you make is important.  Seriously interested Blog readers (and potential clients) create a perception of a blog  & its author from both perspectives.

Comments are so important, that they are often indexed alongside your blog articles & websites in search engines like Google.  They contribute a significant weight to your positioning on-line.  Why is this so?

Well, let's re-consider what a good business blog is intended to do.  An influential & persuasive blog provides information & re-frames it within the context of the blog's author. As a real estate agent, potential clients can get listing & purchasing information from any one of a million websites.

But the increasing popularity of blogs & the explosion in readership indicates that consumers have a real desire to know how the professional they hire intends to create Value!  Information is plentiful & as a result distracting. This is what makes wisdom & the discernment that creates Value so extraordinarily powerful. Your Blog Comments are another way in which potential consumers  examine how you respond to information to create an intelligent & valuable conversation .

The Parallel Blog continues it's commentary:

I'm rarely noticed by the casual observer or visitor.   My value to the reader emerges because you've created a hunger...a hunger for more of you...more of your thoughts...more of your content...more Value.  When the hunger emerges, they begin the hunt, they search for me.  They can find me in a number of ways...but rest assured they will find me, whether you intend for them to do so or not is...irrelevant.

Consider this:  Comments reveal parallel blog commentthe unguarded side of you...what you're like on-line when you relax a little, away from the spotlight that creating blog content invariably produces.  Comments are indexed on search engines because they are indicators of an author's views & personality. Are you creating them with the care & attention you give to your blog post?

Some things to think about...

Is your blog comment an authentic voice...are you adding meaning to on on-line conversation or is it simply noise?

Do your comments reflect the level of professionalism your website, marketing materials & even your blog promise you will deliver?

Are you rude?  This is where potential clients usually find out how you respond to situations you agree or disagree with.  After all most transactions will have some fodder for conflict.  If your comment are an indicator of the real you...would you hire yourself?

Does your response to other's comments to your blog content reflect an attention to detail?  This is something which provides significant Value to a transaction with you?  If you never respond when others ask you questions in writing, how can clients be sure you'll respond to their needs & questions during a transaction?

Every time you leave a comment on-line, you are leaving a Clue!  Your clients are looking for cluesThat's why they seek me out...Your Parallel Blog in the first place.  Are you smart about the clues your are leaving or do you remain clueless?

Hi Eloise, Thank you for stopping by & for your gracious comment.  We amplify what we pay attention to.  Every time we write a comment to a post, it is an amplification of the message.  Your posts about Albuquerque have revealed the beauty of the desert in a way that I had never thought of before.

Jason,  It's always a special pleasure to Welcome a New Reader!  Thanks for stopping by, reading & commenting.  I hope that you will come back to read more in the future.  My promise is to do my best to make it worth your while!

Doreen, "Member Only posts" according to my understanding of Active Rain policy are not sent to the search engines.  However, comments on blog posts outside of Active Rain can definitely be picked up by search engines.  On Active Rain, a link on the homepage makes all your comments which are not  "Member Only Posts" assessible to the general public.

Herb, Congratulations are in order for you too on you 101st Blog post!  Thanks for your comment.  Comments take more time to develop the "story" of YOU, but in someways they may reveal a more complete profile of who is behind the Blog than an individuals blog. It's intriguing to think that through the consistency in "non commenting", one may have succeed, paradoxically  in saying a whole lot  by not saying much. Now, how's that as an anti thesis for blogging! :)

Thanks Abraham for your comment.  Intellectual provocation...I'm glad this got you thinking. :)

Maggie, I'm smiling as I read your comment,  That's another thought...do your comments provoke a response, do they make people think or better yet smile? :)

Hi Ed, I understand that today you're visiting our lovely city of Grand Rapids, Michigan!  Hope you enjoy your stay & thanks for taking the time to stop by here to comment & express a thought of gratitude!

Hi Ed, it is a shock... at least it was to me at first, to see comments I had made indexed alongside my webpage & blog.  We tend to forget just how transparant the medium of the Internet is!

Hi TLW, You have provided some great insights with your comment!  It is so much easier just to have to manage one personna...the REAL one.  Eventually, the REAL YOU catches up with the FAKE YOU on-line or anywhere else & the "boxing match" that ensues is never pretty!  One thing I so appreciate about you is that the REAL YOU shines through everytime you Blog or Comment...at least the YOU that I imagine in my mind. :)  I appreciate your stopping by & taking the time to comment.

Lola:  Your posts are always so insightful.  This really provides much information and clarification in regards to blogging and the comments we put forth....I'm sure for many of us...thankyou.  I especially liked the "some things to think about" information.

TLW: I enjoyed your view also. I know this is not where Lola's post was leading and she enjoyed this insight too related to the "FAKE Persona", so true...much to much hard work and then you lose yourself.

Have a Fabulous Day!

Lola, you're so right. We put a lot of thought into our blogs, but some of the comments are less than what we should be doing to represent ourselves.

Hi Teri,  Thanks for your comment.

Therese,Appreciate your thoughts.  Writing this blog felt a little like Paul Harvey's "the rest of the story."  It's interesting to go through comments & get a picture of what others may find if they took the time to look!

Hi Sharon, Thanks for stopping by & commenting.  Totally agree!

Excellent observation and commentary. I would say that definitly comments are more likely to be unguared compared to the story writing of a blog. Your comments will change a few things in me! Thanks.

These, Thanks for stopping by.  Well SAID!

Lorraine, The thread of comments can sometimes be more interesting than a person's blog post!  Active Rain makes this so easy to do.

Google, amplifies the story through comments in a way that makes understanding that what you're saying in a comment can be "out there" out of your control forever...well... sobering!

Wayne,  Thanks for your comment.

Lola, First let's thank Ray for not letting me miss yourwell deserved featued post.  Active Rain Week In Review 5/6/07 - 5/13/07

Blog comments are very revealing.  When you are leaving comments on a blog, email reply or  even a voice mail... They are not private!

This verbal and non verbal communication reflect who you are. Imagine any of your words showing up as a headline whether in print media, radio or a search engine like Google.

Hi Margaret, I certainly appreciate Ray's highlighting this post, he did a great job with creating the Week in Review after going through 500 blog posts!

Thank you for your comment.  I think that many of us don't really understand how transparent the Internet is. You're absolutely on target with your observation that once a comment is out in print or paper or on voice-mail...it's no longer yours alone. But the flip side of this is this is another opportunity to send a message that provides value & information.

Sometimes an indexed "comment" be so valuable to the reader that they go back to the original article for further information.  In this way, comments can be a very powerful prospecting method for professionals...it's the on-line equivalent of the "Expert Opinion" in abreviated form. :)
