4 month vacation or longer in Thailand for medical treatments - by Robert Swetz

I will be finishing one of my jobs at Caesars Palace in the next few months and me and my wife need some medical work done. We also really miss our daughter Cherry and my wife's mother in Myanmar (Burma).

We have been trying to get our daughter Cherry to come to America for almost 5 years now and Home Land Security is not doing their job very well. Cherry is only 8 years old and really needs to be with her mother and father. And if Home Land Security can't do their job then we must go to Myanmar until they get their (crap) together.

My wife needs some medical attention with some small bumps around her body and the Doctors and medical hospitals charge way to much money, even if you have insurance they rip you off. So we can go to Thailand and have the surgery done for a third of the price. Some people say that's scary and Thailand doesn't have the technology we have here in the USA, yes they do.

I also need some medical work done and we have compared prices between Thailand and USA. Even with medical insurance coverage in the USA, Thailand is a third of the price. Is it safe to have medical work done in Thailand, of course people from the USA do it all the time.

We can stay in Thailand in a very nice apartment for around 150 dollars per month, hang out at the beach and relax.

I love the country I was born in, The United States of America. But my wife has become very disappointed with how expensive and corrupt this country has become. Everyone, I mean everyone has their hands out taking money from the poor and middle class people.

Here in order are the rip-offs my wife & I are tired of!

1) Insurance companies are the worst - high premiums for medical, auto, homes, life, etc. Try adding up all the different insurances you pay and tell me it's not a rip-off.

2) Doctors, Dentists & Medications - Even with Insurance, we are being robbed. Add up the numbers!

3) Sue happy people and Attorney's - People are being sued all the time for Anything and Everything, and it continues to get worse every year.

4) Homes & Rental properties - The Banks, Lenders, etc. have been ripping us off for years and now it has back-fired on them. Thousands of people & families have lost their homes to these crooks.

5) Automobiles & Gas - when owning and driving a car costs as much as renting an apartment to live, something is definitely wrong.

6) Let's not forget Taxes - Taxes continue to rise ever year, where does all this money go.

7) Food prices - food prices have doubled & tripled is costs, why? For many families it has become very difficult to purchase food to feed there families.

8) College tuition's - Some students can't even afford to go to college because of the rise in tuition costs.

I could go on and on and on about the scams and rip-offs in this country.

We really, really need to take a look very closely at what's going on in this country and turn off the televisions and pull our heads out of the hole in the ground ground.

And please, please don't leave me a cop-out comment about how terrible some of these other countries are. Are they really all that bad? Have you lived over in England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Iceland, Switzerland, China, Japan, South America, Philippines, Russia, etc.

Can you really tell me with a straight face that all these countries and more are terrible places to live.

And don't forget my comment about five paragraphs down, I love the country I was born in, The United States of America!

The photograph below was taken in Myanmar (Burma) in May of 2008. And we are looking forward to visiting the wonderful people in this photo, Cherry, Nu Nu's mother & brother. And that's me and Nu Nu in the middle.

Although we don't necessarily share the same views on America, I do want to wish you well both in terms of your reunification with your family and your medical treatment. I hope you have a safe trip and continue to post the wonderful photos of your travels.

Robert, that is so sad that your daughter is a victim of the paperwork needed to get her to the states. Enjoy your time in Thailand. You are lucky that you can take the time off or work from over there for that long. So many people would like to go overseas for medical purposes but can't then afford to be out of work that long.

I lived in Turkey (many moons ago) and Italy and have traveled extensively... I can say without hesitation that America is by far the best country to call home. I hope you have a safe journey... I can't imagine not having your daughter with you. God bless.

Robert: You sound pretty bitter about quite a lot. I could offer different viewpoints on some of the things on your list... but honestly, many of them I actually agree with. I know several people who have gone to Thailand for surgeries... and really have paid about one-third of the US price... and had very good results. Obviously, the follow-up can be a problem once you get back to the US.

I also am inclined to agree about the high cost of insurance. But... if the things the insurance policies pay for cost so much... then the insurance policies HAVE to charge high prices to be able to pay for those high costs. If the costs they pay for somehow get lowered, then the policies would be lower. It's a vicious circle... and I don't have a clue as to how to fix it.

But again... bottom line... I believe there are many other places to live where a person can do just fine. Good luck with the medical work you and your wife are going to have done. And... I'm so glad you all will be able to spend time with the rest of your family. Take care... be well...

Robert...I hope all goes well with the medical treatment.....I really don't think Americans in general understand that we are not the only country that have freedoms....to many people believe the news papers and are government and because of a few bad leaders around the world ,Americans are told we are great and they are bad...anyone that has traveled (non military) in all honesty 95% of the world have rights....If there was anything I could do to help get your daughter here I would...family's should be together...with that said enjoy your time there and again I hope everything goes well....peace zane

And we have to make sure that we put a lot of money away in savings so that we can continue to pay all those expenses when we're no longer able to work. Or we could live on Social Security. NOT.

Isn't it kind of a give and take, though? Many of the world's richest people live in America. I don't remember seeing anyone from Thailand on the list, so I suspect the average household income over there is lower.

My marketing guru always reminds me of the difference between living in Texas and living in California. California has a much higher cost of living (although, interestingly, a Big Mac is 99¢ in both states -- go figure), but he never would have made the kind of money in Texas that he has made in California. I suspect when we're both ready to retire, we'll move to a state that doesn't have a state income tax.

Hey, Bob, you may go over there and not want to come back! I've seen your photos, they are so wonderful. And I certainly agree about the cost of living being way too high here. That's why I wrote my blog about living off the grid, going back to a simpler way of life. Something's got to give!

See my "wihat if" related article at http://activerain.com/blogsview/935493/WHAT-IF-there-were-no-Mortgage-Loans-for-Houses it's very thought-provoking!

With the local government pumping in a lot of money into Singapore's medical industry, I feel that singapore hospitals are very good now. Top notch service with speedy service time.
