How are other people staying motivated in this market here are few of my suggestions. I start each day with affirmations then I start calling at least 6 past clients just to say hello and ask how they're doing (hour of power). Send out notes to people I have met and then I get on the social network sights. Any more suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

By focussing and then refocussing even when you feel you are going blind.  By REFUSING to engage in NEGATIVE conversations of DOOM and GLOOM of any kind and by SPREADING the good news you hear to everyone you know.  Remain POSITIVE and UPBEAT and stay away from the albatross who is dying to drag you under.

The late Carl Karcher (of Carl's Jr. fame) once told me a story about his brother Don.  Whenever someone asked "How are you?" or "How ya doin' Don?" he always answered with a smile: "...Best day of my life" (and then of course, he went out and made it so...)

January 2009 was 142% of prior year and February is trending the same way...minimize all the media and negativity coming from Washington and set out each day to make it your best ever.  Perhaps then others will begin to believe it too!

Good suggestions, I agree with staying away form negative people and conversations!  I think that blogging and social networking are good, I also think you're on the right track with contacting past clients.  Networking in your area is a good thing to do also.

Antoinette - IMO, we have to maintain a positive attitude at all times, not just the down turns.  Keeping in touch with past clients is essential to all our businesses.  Best of luck

I would agree that in this market although we need to be realistic to properly inform are customers about the conditions that may impact the listing price of their home; or where to begin negotiating when a buyer would like to make an offer.  You need to be informed to be an effective agent in this market.  However, this is what we have always done~

I do think that followup is critical and have done so for the past several years.  It is easy to do when you buy or sell a home, to take a few minutes to ask your customer if they would not mind you keeping in touch with them.  Also, this is an opportune time to ask them if they would not mind writing a letter about your services~the response is always very positive.

Customers both past and present enjoy hearing from you and it can give you a big boost and start your day with a positive outlook.

I do agree staying away from negative thinker is a good idea in general.

Antoinette, I think you are on the right track. Since you are accustomed to talking on the telephone, you may want to start working expired listings and FSBO's, if you haven't already done so.
