IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!

My friends home was burglarized last week. It happened during daylight hours between 11:00AM & 3:00PM. The home was entered through the back door. Just a small glass was broken to gain entry. The burglar went to the bedroom and took all the jewelry from a dresser drawer. It appeared that they left through the front door.

The police explained that a majority of women leave their jewelry in a dresser drawer. The advice was obvious: Lock up valuables in a safe. The police also inquired about hand guns. They too should be locked up.

Homeowners insurance needed exact details to determine value. How many of us could do that? The suggestion for jewelry is to photograph it. This way you will not forget about a braclet or somehing else small that you don't wear often. Do the same for other valuables in the house.

Why am I telling you this story?? Everything has a lesson. I will be telling all  clients to lock up or pack up all valuables. This doesn't have to be done in an alarming way. It just makes sense, especially since the house is being shown every day.

Good tips.  I often wonder if things sometimes disappear in all the craziness of packing and moving and the owners might never know, or they might assume that they mmisplaced or lost it.

Good Morning Christina, Moving is very stressful. Valuables should not be left for the movers. Pack these items up and place in your car. Thanks for your response.

this goes under the list of things we KNOW we should do, have MEANT to do, just haven't gotten around to doing! How is it the important things get pushed down on the priority list?

Hi Lisa, I think that we do not believe that this could happen to us. Only to other people.

Burglar pros know the likely hiding spots for valuables. I sometimes think the garage would be the safest place if a bolted-down safe weren't available.

Hi Roberts, Great idea. Who would look in a garage? That would be the least obvious place.

Hey Janice,  Sorry I'm late.

It's a crazy world we live in and everyone always thinks "It won't happen to me." until it does.  Boy Scouts Motto = Be prepared.

Even in my sleepy little burg we've had a string of break-ins lately (oddly coinciding with the prison release of a certain bad apple).  Some people even broke into the house of some folks and threw a party.

There's a level of people in our society that grows everyday.  It's people who think they come completely first and that they are untouchable.  They can say what they want, do what they want with no consequence.

It's shameful.

I'll be locking up all of my valuables.  Oh wait, I carry my Flash Drive everywhere already.

= )

Yours truly.

Hi Jason , How was golf??? Usually my doors are unlocked. But it doesn'seem to matter. If someone wants to get in they will go in. Probaby drug dealers. They took the things easy to carry. No electronic stuff.

I just posted a spider-man blog. Check it out! I can't blog tomorrow. I wll actually be too busy.

Watch the Discover channels "To Catch a Thief" you will be amazed how these people think. These people even knew someone was going to break into their homes and it just didn't matter! They still got in and got away with thousands of dollars of materials.

Janice,

You are certainly right.  Some people are very irresponsible about where they leave things.  Todd is right, I have watched that show "To Catch a Thief" and it is amazing how they break into your house and know exactly where people hide things in their homes.    Thanks for sharing.

Hi Debbie, thanks for responding. We have to give our clients this info without causing alarm or we will never get the lockboxes on.
