Home Inspections

What will we find, during your Home Inspection?

A AFCI Breaker is not designed to prevent arcing, but are designed to react to certain types of arcs.

AFCI - Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters, have been around for a few years. They are similar to GFCI - Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters. AFCI's are designed to detect certain arcing conditions, which is a very common cause of electrical fires in homes. AFCI's are designed to shut off electricity to the circuit when a specific kind of problem is detected.

AFCI Circuit Breakers

Just like with the GFCI outlets in the home's kitchen and bathrooms, should be tested monthly. So should the AFCI breakers in the electric panel. To ensure that they are working properly. Each AFCI breaker are identified by different coloring and are labeled as AFCI. There are test buttons on them, which induce an electrical arc. Just like when GFCI's need to be reset, when they are triped. So does a AFCI.

If you have a AFCI breaker tripping regulaly, consult a qualified electrician immediately. To determine just why the tripping is happing.

Dale you again posted some very good information. It's always important to check these as you stated. If they begin to trip then call a professional to check'em out.

My Howdy

there Carl and Ceil

I'm always glad to see ya stop by to visit, and leave one of your fine comments. On one of my post's, here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friends

It sure is real important, for folk's to keep an eye on any breakers in their home. And if any of them start tripping on a regular bases. Call in the professional to find out way. Folk's sure don't want to end up having a fire.

Hi Dale, thanks for all the good information in your posts.  Most people probably don't test their GFCI outlets monthly.

My Howdy

there Trey

I'm always very glad to have you stop in to visit, and to read a fine comment left by ya. On one of my post's, here at my little ole Blogging Homestead, my friend

I'm a very slow typer, so I did not see your comment untill after I uploaded my reply to Carl.

Thank you for your very kind words. I have always believed in learning as much, as I can to help folk's. I've seen way to many fires that did not have to happen, if the folk's had only called in a professional to find out what was going on. I may take a little more time than some, when it comes to looking over the electical areas of a home. But sure don't want to miss a thing.

I would have to say, that your right. From all the bad GFCI outlets that I've found in homes, that I have inspected. But may be the folk's that read this post, will start testing the GFCI and AFCI breakers in their home. After reading this post. We can only hope folk's learn, from reading our post's.

Dale, you should figure out a way to categorize your posts into some kind of resource so that folks could type in a subject and get the answer. You have such a wealth of knowledge and write in a way that us laymen can understand. Just an idea but it would d be great to have access to that kind of knowledge with your name on IT! Have a good week!

I'll have to see, what I can come up with. I've been looking in to seting up my own server, and puting up a blog of my own outside of the AR community. Should be able to do that there. Thank for your, very kind words.
