From MY Back Porch (What DOES a Codger do when he’s not posting?)

Good Tuesday Morning!—It may come as a complete surprise to you, but I did not post yesterday! I made a few comments—but no post. Medford didn’t post, nor did Carl, Harold, Fred, or even the imaginary Molly. Boomer doesn’t post (yet—I’ve been working on him). Since all our other characters are imaginary—they did not post either.

So just what does a Codger do if he doesn’t post? Whatever he wants! Some of us, I guess, sit in neat rocking chairs and watch the world go by—there’s some benefit in that, I have one and I DO rock! But that soon becomes boring.

On Monday, I started my day at the “Real World” café and enjoyed a sensible breakfast of oatmeal, whole-grain toast, and of course a mug of organically & shade-grown, Fair Trade, Sumatran Roast coffee, that fired up my remaining brain-synapses, and prepared me for the rest of the morning.

I stopped by “Sophie Jo’s” Antique shop—it is disturbing to note that I am older than most of what she displays! I made no purchases.

I then stopped by Boomer’s house, and took temporary custody of my step-dog Daisy. After we walked for an hour or so, I returned the long-legged beagle to her home. I asked Realtor®-Broker-Goddess Teresa, considering poor Boomer had to actually work today, if I might make use of his more-powerful-than-my-computer computer.

And then—then I got down to business. Starting with a little photo-shopping (I planned ahead, and brought my finger-drive with me heh-heh), combining photos taken last March after a snowstorm, and those taken in the past few days.

This first photo is of neighbor Lorraine’s home, showing why we so love it here. Snow is a beautiful phenomenon. Sure, it’s a royal pain in the kiester, but as with most real Minnesotans, I’d miss it. I was soo jealous of Denver’s snow while we got squat earlier this past winter!

This photo illustrates the disappearance of what many consider ugly new condos blocking our late autumn, winter and early spring view of the river. Those leaves perform a real service to those of us with discriminating taste!

While still at Boomer’s, I used his powerful computer to rework the cyber-maps. I was just not satisfied with that 1st map. Then home for lunch.

In the afternoon, I took a short road trip to see some friends in Owatonna, MN, about 60 miles south of St. Paul, returning home in time for dinner—and a few comments on the ‘Rain.

This fine, soon to be sunny Tuesday, I have returned from yet another sensible breakfast with the usual suspects, and have prepared yesterday’s efforts for posting:

Master Cyber Map © 2007 Codger™ Images

This graphic is the redone overall map of the Codger’s corner of cyberspace. I believe it better represents what I had in mind. The Cyber-highways shown are based on actual US highways that once were the only way for interstate travel, and all three intersected (and sort of still do) in St. Paul: Cyber-US 10/US Highway 10 extended west to Seattle, WA. Cyber-US.US Highway 12 once extended west to Grays Harbor, WA, on the Pacific Ocean. Cyber US 61/US 61, once extended north into Canada. This new map reorganized the Cyber-Wood neighborhood, and added the Old Town neighborhood (where we cyber-old-timers live).

This next graphic shows downtown “Codger Corners” where you will find the really important downtown locations of our melodrama labeled.

Finally, the Old Town neighborhood with our respective cyber-homes labeled (this does not represent where our homes are in the real world).

I hope you managed to get through this over-long post without falling asleep! Enjoy, comment, come back, comment again tomorrow—as I probably will take yet another day off.

Jay, we all need a day off to catch up with ourselves.  I thought the other map was great, but you have done even a better job with this one, and the overhead shots of Codgers Corners really help to put things into perspective.

I'd like to have a lot up by the Codger Lodge on the Lake.  I can live in a tent in the Summer which is the only time you could get me to Minnesota anyway.

I'll bet the CyberSuperior Lake has some good CyberWalleye and some huge CyberPike.

Hi Jay!
Sounds like you enjoyed your time away from the old puter yesterday. Good for you! I agree with George, I liked the first map but wow, you've really outdone yourself with these! Love them!

I can't believe I beat Sarah here!

George: Thank you for your “graphic compliment.” I can see my cyber-world in my mind’s eye, but I’m not am accomplished enough story-teller to describe it accurately.  Thursday, I’m planning a road trip to the real North Shore of Lake Superior—one of the most beautiful parts of our state (my camera will come too).

Lenn: CyberLake-Trout are its claim to fame—but no doubt CyberWalleye & CyberNorthern Pike lurk there as well.

Lysa: I wasn't completely away from computers, but it was nice in the morning not worrying about what to post. Sarah usually stops by early AM, and this post came out late AM, so you got here first!

Hi, Jay!  I made it, I AM late today!!  It's been one of those days.  It's very nice to see everything laid out here.  I'm a visual person and if I see it I have a much better grasp.  Very nice work on the maps!

I've been out of town and have just poked into the rain a few times over the past week.  I'm back and  I really enjoyed reading this post!  And especially pleased to see that Lenn approves of your maps. :-)

Carnac promises to back soon.  I'll give you a head's up before his return.

Sarah: I guess you were late! I too, enjoy having the ability to visualize things. Sometimes after a book I have enjoyed is made into a movie I find myself saying “That’s not how I pictured it—they got it all wrong.

Linda: I hope you enjoyed your trip. No chant this time.

Lisa: Cute post! But—seems to me you were AWOL from the rain longer than a couple of days?!

Peep-Diggety: I guess that’s allowed once in a while.

Touche!  I've never ever been as consistent as you guys. What can I say, you've become a regular part of my day, and REALLY miss it when you're not here.  NOT That that means you shouldn't take your time off!

Just wanting you to know I made it over here Codgers.  Any idea what some cyberwaterfront lots go for?  Your maps have done a fabulous job of selling me already!  I may not have any moola, but I have lots and lots of cyber moola.  Name your price!

Jay & Med, I was in your neighborhood again last week and took all kinds of pictures of many houses.  Imagine my surprise when I was in front of the Bloggoddessbroker's house and I looked across the street at the duplex.  On the front porch was the spitting imagine of one of your graphics.  I was so shocked at my good fortune that I crossed the street and introduced myself.  The poor man had no clue who I was or what a computer was.  I think he was worried I was going to accost him!  He was on the front porch waiting for a ride.  Your neighborhood must be teeming with great blog fodder when even your real neighbors look like your contrived neighbors!  I'm getting closer to finding your house.  I know where the little yellow house is, so next time . . .  Of course I could just keep it simple and go to the park early in the morning and call for Daisy or better yet stop for coffee at the bloggoddessbroker's office!  She's not breaking any privacy issues.  Confidentiality, you know, is one of our fiduciary duties!

Since I'm not posting for points I'll just edit this little comment!  The townhouses are the worst atrocity I've yet to see in St. Paul.  I cannot imagine what the powers were thinking when they approved something that modern looking and gaudy.  It DOES NOT FIT THE ST. PAUL PERSONALITY!   And to be right there on the river for all the tourists and river enthusiasts to have to look at is worse than an insult.  They stick out like a sore thumb!  You really must post a bigger picture so the full effect is shown.
