Cravings go to more than just food.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!!! Or are you?  Growing up that's what kids said to each other.  Got it???  You ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!!

I have a different take on this phrase....how about you CRAVE WHAT YOU EAT!!!

This goes to

1)  FOOD

2)  LIFE

3)  DISCIPLINE

4)  BUSINESS and even

5)  LOVE!!!!!

So what gives?????  Let me share a story with you, then we'll talk about how it translates to life...

                                                  http://www.infobarrel.com/media/image/440.jpg

Here's the deal....one of my best friends in life works for a competitor.  We fizzle in and out of contact due to our frenetic lives.  She lived a wild life until a few years ago.  Not really wild, but definitely wilder than yours truly.  She ended up getting divorced, FINDING CHRIST, and subsequently getting remarried.  Forcing yourself to eat and do the right things make you crave the right thingsWhat she told me sticks with me to this day.  First, let me say that she was never fat..EVER..but in her mind, she was overweight and could use to lose a few pounds.  I remember having a conversation, but the result of the conversation was that you CRAVE WHAT YOU EAT.  You eat crap, then you crave it.  EAT GREATNESS, and you CRAVE IT

SO WHERE'S THE RUB?????

A lot of people, including your's truly want change in a certain area of life.  But the craving for the old garbage is always tugging on the shirt sleeve.  People want to:

Quit Smoking

Quit Drinking

Lose Weight

HERE'S A NOVEL IDEA...Have a great and successful business;

Be Disciplined in Work and in Life!!!!!

So let's translate a favorite of mine...food and health.  You ever watch the Biggest Loser?  People want to lose weight, but they don't want to give up the crappy foods they're eating.  Why????  They've eaten crap so long that crap is exactly what they crave.  Any whoooooooooo, my friend forced herself to eat fruits and raw vegetables and other stuff that sounds good on paper, but looks like it'll taste like crap to real men.  She told me that she force fed herself....(THAT'S CALLED DISCIPLINE)....AND LO AND BEHOLD she started to actually crave the good foods.  She started craving everything that was good for her.  It was a decision, than when stuck to provided great results and the cravings got in line.  Mind you, this wasn't overnight, but, most importantly, it was real.

Here's the gig....life is like a box of chocolates.....scrap that....

If you want to change, YOU NEED DISCIPLINE!!!!!  There really isn't anything better for change.  I could go on about the psychology of forgiveness and the need to forgive yourself, but it's discipline that changes the result.  But.....

AFTER YOU'VE BEEN DISCIPLINED LONG ENOUGH....IT GETS EASY BECAUSE YOU START TO CRAVE THE GREAT STUFF.

Want lose weight?  Get to the point of craving the good stuff.  IT WILL COME!  Want a better business, then discipline yourself to making daily non-negotiables.  It really does come in every facet of life.  This year, I've been working on Bible Study and Health.  In both cases, the more I force feed myself the good stuff, the more that I crave that good stuff.  It was hard to switch, but once done, life has been grand.

Holy Sni-keees Batman!!!! Man Eating JalepenosHoly wacka  nacka!!!!!  The challenge that exists in creating discipline can be insane.  The reward that comes from this success is even greater.  Remember the great successes come from great sacrifices.

I know that there are some in the rain who don't want success even though they claim that they do....  However, once that effort is put forth, that changes everything.

Good stuff indeed......Worth the price????

YOU BETCHA!!!!!

But, I surely do crave a slab of chocolate.

After going to the gym for a while, you will crave it. Just gotta get over the hump first.

Larry, I wanted to lose weight.  3 years ago I started walking and became disciplined with it.  I lost 50 lbs walking.  I craved it all the time and I have kept it off.  Well I have put some back on, but that is muscle from lifting weights.

Also, personal growth and development helps tremendously.  You are less stressed and you don't crave negative crap.  You avoid it and your mind is so relaxed, at ease and focused.

Great post!  Thank you!

Larry....  what about craving sex?  What do you have for that one?  lol  Seriously though, you bring up some great points and analogies. I crave to be one of the best at educating, yet I seem to eat a lot of crap.  ;o)  But I agree...  once you are disciplined in doing it, you just chug along and keep at it.  good post.

Hi Larry,

Tell me honestly that you rather have cottage cheese than a Ben and Jerry's ice cream cone?

I heard it takes 2 weeks to create a new habit and 2 weeks to lose one. I believe it takes longer than that. If you fall off the wagon, whether it's prospecting, eating healthfully or exercising, don't beat yourself up over it. Dust yourself off and pick up the pieces and forge ahead. Sooner or later it sticks.  Man, what I'd give for a bag of Maui Chips.....

Hi Larry, I always like seeing my favorite bloggers get a gold star!

I talk with my daughter a lot about self discipline.  She complains that she needs to do things that she never gets done and I remind her that the more you do something, even if you don't want to do it at first, the more you want to do it.

Very well put! I try to work out and I crave the "feeling" I get after a good workout. I never actually enjoy the actual sweating part though! I can eat healthy, but there IS something about chocolate!!!

If you work hard you become successful, and then you become accustomed to that!

"The Editor" strikes again, I see.  I've seen that spam floating around here a bunch this morning.

Larry - This just may be the best post I've read of yours... ever!  Plus, I've never heard the term "wacka nacka" and I may want to borrow it:)  I have much work ahead of me in many areas, but I'm very lucky to be surrounded by mentors and wise souls... like yourself.

It's always amazing to me...

When CRAP sets off the alerts :)

Larry...

I've been laid up with a busted leg and found myself sitting around eating CRAP. As of Yesterday I decided I had to put the brakes on it. The only time it's ok to eat CRAP is when you intend to work off the CRAP with physical activity. It's also ok to eat CRAP when it comes from Lenn in the form of Brownies :)

I could say so much more about eating CRAP and letting yourself go. But, I won't. This is YOUR Blog and I surely need to exercise a little discipline :)

I believe you can live yourself into a way of thinking.  The worse thing about eating right, is when I go back to old habits and my stomach gets upset, because it misses the good food.

Great post Larry. I used to smoke about a pack and a half a day, drank 2-3 pots of coffee a day. I quit both the same day December 4, 2004, COLD TURKEY. Trust me, I felt like a Cold Turkey by the 4th day. Day 1 with no coffee, headaches and very grouchy. For me to quit smoking, I knew I would have to quit drinking coffee because that was my "trigger". Definitely not easy, seriously, the fourth day I think I could have climbed a telephone pole with no equipment, tough, tough, day. And to this day, I still crave them, only occassionally, but it is still there. But less and less. As you say, change your habits and you will crave your new habits, I agree wholeheartily.

Hi Larry~ Loved your post!  Old habits are hard to break, but it can be done if you are persistent and consistent with replacing the old habit with a good one.  Backsliding can happen, but only if you let it.  Discipline makes the difference.

Larry,  you've touched on a topic I try to share with people all the time...sadly, many don't want to hear it.  Health is a very touchy subject, and very few want to change old habits, even though those old habits may be slowly killing them.

I started a Better Health Group some months ago, please consider adding this blog to the group.  I've been away from the rain quite a bit since Christmas, but am getting back to it now.  For those looking for better health, I hope they come and join the group!

Hey Lar - Holy Wa Na! Great one! Love it, Love it, Love it! You have me thinking about my cravings... Interesting - The good news is that it takes 30 days to make or break it. - A craving is simply a habitual act, but but not simple to change with out the discipline you speak of. Congratz on the feature... keep em coming...

Man Larry, it's like you're in my head.  I have stressed that discipline is the #1 key factor to success in ANY aspect of life.  Those who can master themselves can master the universe.  You can do all the positive thinking in the world, get all the education one can muster, but if you don't have the discipline to do the things that will get you to your goals you will NEVER succeed.  I see so many people out there who have talent, looks, personality, intelligence, everything one needs to succeed, EXCEPT discipline. Great post and best of luck.

I agree after having four kids being disciplined is a key aspect in my everyday life. I gained double the recommend thirty so to get it off and keep it off i have to stay disciplined and now its easy for me.The crazy part is yes after a while you would rather have a chicken breast and steamed vegetables over a big mac. Now as a new agent i just need to figure out how to use my strong discipline and make my way up the real estate ladder and start selling!

Larry,

I was just watching a DVD this morning dealing with this exact subject. This not just emotional but actually physiological. Your brain activity changes based on what you continuously feed it. Most of the time it's just getting rid of limiting beliefs we have about ourselves. Beliefs often given to us in childhood that we carry and that taint our perspective of life. Breaking free takes effort but as the change occurs it becomes easier.
