Friday night it was 7pm and I was finally done with work, got home and did not feel like cooking (story of our lives). I talked Gene into trying this little restaurant close by that we have been meaning to try but never gotten there for one reason or another. Several people have expressed astonishment that we had never discovered this little haunt and Friday night I was determined we were going to check it out!
We drove in and could hardly see a parking spot, the restaurant looked full and there were customers waiting. Gene was impatient but I jumped out and said I'd run in to see how long the wait was. Someone backed out freeing up a parking space (a good omen!) A nice looking lady asked me how many and I said 2, she said won't be too bad a wait, maybe 10-15 minutes. I gave her a thumbs up! The deck was full and so was the inside of this small and rustic house, but I could see there were people finishing so figured she was probably right on the money with her prediction!
Gene came in and sure enough we were seated within 10 minutes on the deck (gorgeous night, still in the 70's). Were we in for a treat! I ordered a combination plate with fried shrimp & catfish (don't usually eat that but everyone's plate looked so good, thought I'd try it). Gene ordered their gumbo soup that was awesome and he had fried shrimp. As the lady who took our names came by she stopped by to say hello. Gene asked her how long they had been opened. She said 12 years!! We just rolled our eyes and said we could not believe it took us this long to get to a great place so close by our home! Her name is AJ and she returned in a little bit with a plate of broiled shrimp (on the house) that were delicious! She thanked us for coming in. Trust me we will be back! She won us over at hello!!
If you live in NW Austin or even if you don't, make the trek to 13507 Hwy 183 and stop in for wonderful food, a low key atmosphere and reasonable prices.
