YOUR BROKERAGE IS GOING BROKE...WHAT WOULD YOU DO? LOYALTY OR STUPIDITY?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty West Bloomfield Market Center

Over-expansion, law suits, bad market: they did everything wrong! They go from being one of the largest and most respected brokerages in the area to the announcement on local TV of a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. That phase is but a chunk of ice in the iceburg! There was the nationally known fair housing discrimination lawsuit against them that's still going on...more writing was on the wall the day you went into your office and was told, "we have to move out by 5pm, we're moving to our other office up the street". And the agents did it! Like a bunch of sheep! Then more lawsuits followed. Commission checks are bouncing...and yet, when you call or email the agents to perhaps recruit them to your brokerage, they tell you they are not leaving! How is that possible? It makes no sense to me at all! It's a well known fact that this company is done! That quite possibly the next time the agents show up for work, they will be locked out and all of their belongings will be in the hands of debt collectors!

Would you stay in this company...a company that gives you absolutely NOTHING? They cannot advertise, they cannot hardly PAY you! How do their clients feel? Would you list your house with a failing company? Would you as an agent take a Buyer's escrow check thinking it may never see the light of day? All the bad news about them is common knowlege and I can see a lot of listings that have expired are not being relisted with them. My old Realtor friends are still there. They say Mr. So and So and So told us not to worry! Change is hard...but this seems absurd!

Loyalty or stupidity? I can't figure it out!
What do you think?

What would YOU do?
