The weather in Maine and Real Estate

By
Real Estate Agent with Allen & Selig Realty

People say that real estate is some what cyclical but here in Maine we have a whole new spin on that saying.  Over the past 13 years I have experienced so many real estate cycles, markets, trends and on and on.... None however seem to be as consistant as the weather in Maine.  During the depth of our winters here, real estate plugs on.  The hardy of us that are doing this as a full time profession are often known to say, "this would be much easier in the South".  However, we put on our LLBean boots, lace them up tight so the snow doesn't make it's way down to the wool socks below and we trudge on.  Just yesterday while working hard to get that perfect shot of my new listing, I stepped one step too far into the snow bank at the edge of a well travelled road and whoosh....my foot sunk in and there I was, stuck in the snow bank well past my knees.  Don't get me wrong, this wasn't even close to the first time I had been in this position so I carefully got the perfect shot of my new listing, took a few more for a visual tour and then wiggled my leg to release it from the 3 ft of snow below.  The photo shoot was easy after this...well, that was until I got to the back yard and I began my trek across 3 ft. of sometimes solid, sometimes not crusted snow.  As I made my way well back in the yard to once again get the perfect photo I realized that this adventure is largely what real estate is all about for me.  It is about the opportunity to go that extra mile for the people that are trusting their single biggest asset in my capable hands.  So for all the frozen pipes, the snow banks waiting to be crossed and for the mud season that is yet to come...despite the weather in Maine, we trudge on, smiling in the knowledge that we are providing a service, though it may not always be easy,  that can be as rewarding to us as it is to those that we serve!  I say bring on that Maine winter, I am going out and sell some houses!
