Those Beautiful Blogs that we spend so much time on are really nice when they work. I don't know about you, but after I got my beautiful blog I wanted to write things, put pictures on there, and let everyone know they could come visit me.  Isn't that what we do?  So what went wrong?

What went wrong is a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.  Always has been, look at  some of our clients that purport to know how to sell Real Estate cuz they read a book, or watched a show on TV.  Well, that's exactly what happened to my blog.  I read something about permalinks or something, and changed something on my admin section thinking I was doing a good thing.  Never thought about it again, until today when I was told that all my internal links (ie: click her to read this Post), didn't work.

What a fiasco.  Jay McGillicuddy  had been kind enough to offer to upload a WP Plug-in for me, and after a few times of giving him the wrong password, he finally got into the admin panel.  OK, so I thought all was good, wrong !

It turned out that my sidebar was all messed up, and Jay needed to go to where ever the FTP files are located.  By now I am thinking marti (he built my site) is going to kill me for messing up my site, even though I had no idea at all what happened.  And of course  the FTP location was a complete mystery anyway.  So now instead of my nifty new Foreclosure Form, I had a messed up site.

Help marti......yes once again, I had messed up my blog and not even known it.  I sent marti an email, and he told me to ask what the person that went in there might have done.  Jay wrote back that it was like that when he went in there.....so I passed this info along.  Oh no, now what, and I just knew that marti was going to be irritated that this "untechy" person  (me) messed up his nice blog...... LOL :)  He wasn't but I felt like a little kid that got caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

Well, marti found the problem (I knew he would) and boy do I feel dumb.  I had read something about permalinks and changed a setting to what I thought would be good for my site;  and apparently that messed up my blog; the internal part.  I didn't know it because I don't go to my own site and click to read stuff......:)

So long story short....I messed up my own Blog by trying to do something on my own without knowing what I was doing.  I am extremely thankful that marti has the best communication of anyone I know, and went in and found the problem only hours after I sent my email.  I just love marti. I also want to apologize to you Jay, as I just get scared when it comes to this stuff :)

Thank you marti and Jay....

I promise to stay away from what I don't know .....at least until the next thing I read :)

Jay upgraded my Wp.org blog on Tuesday night. I was concerned about security and I know when WP upgrades they fix security issues. He also upgraded my plugins that needed upgrading.

I love my outside blog but I honestly as a nervous cat when it comes to doing things in a language I don't understand.

Regardless, Jay did a fantastic job if anyone needs help.

I just wrote all my comments and did my "graphic"......and it ate my comments saying:You did not correctly enter the text of the graphic displayed. Please try again.  How appropriate for a Post on tech problems.....and now I have to get back to another part of my job, so don't have time to re input all.....

Maybe AR could not lose all the comments if the "graphic" is wrong...just not submit it !!!  Also I received 4 notifications that I updated this Post (went in and added link to Jay, and some structural changes) but not 1 notification of any comments :(

Hi Kathy, glad you are back up and running. Some minor tweaks here and there can easily raise havoc with our blogs. I have a few nightmare stories on my blog as well when it came to upgrading WordPress.org sites.

Ah my Cali friend - you're so right that a little bit knowledge can be quite dangerous.  Been there done that, as probably many of us have!  ;-)

Jay is awesome - he did my whole new blog and I love it!

Glad things are back to normal for you.  Fiddling around with my blogs and sites makes me skittish for just that reason.  I'm really nervous about breaking something.

Kathy, I swear all this stuff makes me nervous.  I screw up technical stuff left and right, or so it seems.  Thank goodness we have all the great folks like Marti and Jay to help us out.

Hmmm....I just love when people click around and mess something up (not) Last week Gary reloaded four of my friends pc's /laptops because they clicked on a box that popped up from a website.

Well, at least yours was a mess up and marti came to your rescue. You learned something though :) :)

That sounds like something I would do.  Thanks for the post -- maybe it will keep some of the rest of us from making the same mistake.

I honestly never really know what I'm doing...I consider myself an actress (wakakakaka!) and am constantly screaming (in my head, of course) to the directors and producers to TAKE 2 while I hit the Kraft Services food table and compose myself in my trailer of imagination on wheels, hitched to a stAR.Seriously, technology steals my sanity at the same time it saves me and propels my business and marketing plan. Wish you could come to the RETech South event in Atlanta next month...any chance? I'll just surround myself with brains and hope to leave with at least half a one! :-)  I love that Marti could help you like that. I just love how there are so many people helping people on ARain..
