Yesterday I wrote a post about Stephanie, my 16 year old that has the flu. She missed school yesterday because she was feeling terrible.  It seems that everyone we know is passing it around right now.  (Don't give it to me, I don' t want it!)

Stephanie had a fever and we were able to break it and she was back down to 99.0 degrees. This morning when I got up to check on her it was up to 103.8.  So, I called the doctor.  He told us exactly what to take.  So, we have been following his orders.

Since Stephanie has been sick, our boxer, Bailey, has not left her side. When I'm in the room giving her medicine or fluids he sits right next to me, watching. When I leave the room, he jumps up on the bed, right next to her and stays close. When she leaves the room, he comes to get me in my home office. He nudges me to tell me that she's up and to go check on her.  He watches her or he wants me to be sure that I know exactly where she is at all times.

I guess it's true...we all have a Guardian Angel. And Bailey is Stephanie's guardian angel ( or should I say guardian dog?!.)

Here's Bailey, in Stephanie's bed right next to her...

We all have a guardian angel

Sandy, years ago, when I had 5 dogs, I had surgery and was in bed for a week.  I had five dogs in bed with me, all day, all night.  The only time they left was at feeding and potty time.  They know when we need them!

We have a 4 month old Boxer puppy named George that is exactly the same way with my wife and daughter. They make great guard dogs. I hope your daughter gets to feeling better soon.

Dogs, and animals in general, just seem to have this sense about them.  The few times that I have been really sick, my oldest cat has been right by my side.  They just seem to know that you're not feeling well and want to see you get better!  Bailey sounds like a wonderful family pet!

Hi Sandy

Yes dogs have a natural instinct and they will stay with a sick person. They are is a sense a guardian angel.

Good luck and success

Oh, yes, Sandy.  There are guardian dogs.  We used to have a Pit Bull/Black Lab/Sharpei mix (yes, weird mix) that was our Guardian Angel.  My husband and I got her before I even was pregnant with our only child.  She was the absolute best guard dog in the world, attentive, only barked when someone was near the house (which is what you want in a guard dog) and very good with our son.  Bailey looks like an angel if ever I saw one!

Tony, Dogs seem to have that sixth sense.

Hey Miss Mary, Bailey is awesome and Stephanie was feeling well enough to go to the show and watch her sister in the play.

Darrell, Oh, a 4 month old boxer, They are such smart animals.  I would love to see George!

Heather, Sounds like you had a wonderful pet. They are so awesome, aren't they?

Sandy - I had a "guardian" cat for many years.  Sabu was an extremely intelligent black cat that lived to be 19 years of age.  Sabu actually taught himself to use the toilet!  He never used a litter box.  He just figured if we did, he would!  He was a bit of a warrior cat and a tad possessive of me.  He hated men that visted:-)  A few years before he died, I had a tech come to fix my computer.  He was here about an hour and a half, and when he went to leave, he had to step over about a half dozen rodents (mice, a mole, etc) left on the front door welcome mat.  That cat actually looked me squarely in the eyes as if to say, "I can provide for you better."  It was a great loss when Sabu died.  His ability to read men was uncanny.  And I attribute my remaining relatively "unscathed" via bad relationships to that cat!

Hi Myrl, I bet that you were terribly heartbroken with Sabu died.  How sad to lose such a wonderful companion.  And how lucky for you that he could sense people.  So often times they can. Funny, but I had a doberman -great dane mix that was the same way with me and men, He was incredibly possessive and if he didn't like a man there was usually a very good reason. When I was single I always said, 'if you can pass the test of my dog, then you're okay.' He was never wrong about a single one.  Thanks for sharing your great story.
